Hi. I have been reading with interest the threads about headaches. My

daughter, 14 has a headache all the time. Sometimes it is tolerable to her and

other times it is very bad. She has enough language to tell me that it never

goes away and has always been that way.

I was wondering how others treat headaches. What treatments are suitable for

our children other than homeopathy which we already are trying?

Thank you.

My son's osteopath says that babies delivered by forceps may have headaches

later, as well as crowded dentition requiring treament, if they don't have

osteopathic treatment. Whether or not she was a forceps baby maybe worth trying

cranial osteopathy? Also, I have found the Aleaxander technique can help me with

headaches.

Hi _ i am also very interested in this - (non-verbal aged nearly

13)is bashing his head with his hand quite a lot and also regularly takes our

hands and pushes his forehead into them. He has also puts his head under the

cold tap (used to think he was just playing up but now wonder if he is trying to

help pain). Recently had a discussion with using Facilitated comm

(on this day i sensed that he was not quite right in himself):-

C;i feel real pain (tell me more) it is inside my head.(can you tell me how it

feels/when it happens) c ; it is like it cannot escape.

Wrote on paper do you have this pain – choices all the time/ sometimes – he

pointed to all the time. asked even when you watch videos? Pointed to yes

Can you think of any times when you forget about the pain –used yes/no choice on

my hands he chose yes – he did a pretend snore- when you are asleep? Yes

Can you give another eg of when you forget about the pain C; when i watch tv and

dvds.

Was out of room a lot and very rough with me – finding this difficult today so

told him i wanted to try something else – I got the stencils and he used a

pencil to point to the letters (angled) asked can you describe the pain c;

'upside down creatures cb4 bopt' – then came back to alphasmart keyboard – got

weighted blanket and draped over his shoulders. Also moved away each time he was

slightly rough.asked

Is there anything else you can tell me about this to help me understand:

C;'want to take reaslitic decisions.about the metrix and clear

mybrainofthisrotten pain.'

(asked if he could giove me another word for metrix) c;nau (try again)'

problem.'

I wondered whether to ask him to rate the pain (0-10) and on worse days give

neurofen? - will look into cranial oest again (he did have this when he was

younger). Any other ideas welcome.

Just to add a thought, suffered excrutiating migraine since 14yrs old and now my son also has them, ours is triggered by food but can also be triggered by many supplements.

I have an idea that may be the same but being non verbal we just eliminate according to diary results. For me Selenium triggered migraine roughly one week after starting so it isn't always very obvious, sometimes a supplement or food can be tolerated on first introduction. My intolerances have increased over the years and I think boys may end up the same as at the moment oldest is reacting to cheese only as a food trigger but then I only reacted to Orange and citrus anything for many years.

had tinned tomatoes yesterday which had citric acid and had a very bad afternoon, just for the record the tinned tomatoes were not my doing!

hi and Margaret,

my sons cranial and osteopath 2 different people often told me my son had

headaches, now he doesnt seem to get them he is 9,we have done this for quite a

few years, but this is probably because we do cranial monthly osteopathy every

two weeks and healing weekly. I would highly reccommend this for you daughter,

, we use a charity for osteopathy. And he was delivered by forceps and

ventouse...

www.fpo.org.uk

there maybe a similar charity near where you live. Also byronia a homeopathic

remedy is great for headaches at 30c from helios. Isobel

I had to reply to this thread with my daughter's headaches.

She has been suffering with severe daily headaches since before last Christmas.

She has also had headaches on and off for years. The medical professionals have

always said that it is just migraine.

It isn't, it is caused by low cortisol. In my daughter's case she has a very

small pituitary gland and it seems to be this that is causing the problem, she

is not producing enough ACTH to produce the cortisol.

Both myself and Dr Goyal are trying very hard to get the NHS endocrinologist to

recognise this, luckily, we now have an NHS neurologist who is also fighting for

her and is clearly stating that her pituitary gland is small and pre-pubertal.

I am sure that most ASD chidlren do not have small pituitary's like my daughter,

but, adrenal fatigue is very common, so it might be worth doing a saliva adrenal

stress profile. It was this test that first highlighted this issue for us.

My daughter's headaches disappears in minutes when she has hyrodocortisone. We

are currently trying pregnenolone to try to raise her cortisol levels that way -

this works very well. If you google pregnenolone and migraines you will see that

there is alot about this.

Just an aside about The Technique - we have just been to the My Horse

Life event at Stoneleigh. There was an Technique stand there doing 15

minutes sessions. They did some adjustmenst to my daughter's head, neck and

shoulders. Within a couple of minutes she had virtually collapsed, lost all

colour and was feeling very unwell. Soon after she was physically sick. Luckily

one of the practitioners was a Dr and she laid her down to recover.

What happened was that the adjustments lengthened the body putting the head at a

bigger distance from the heart, this led to low pressure. This normally happens

and usually someone just feels a bit dizzy and their pituitary gland reacts and

sends out ACTH to produce cortisol to raise the blood pressure. In my daughter's

case, the pituitary galnd cannot react that quickly and so she had a

mini-addisonian crisis.

So, it might be worth finding out what is causing the headaches before doing any

Technique!

Dear ,

Thank you so much for your reply.

My daughter had reflexology recently and the main thing that showed up was a

problem with her pituitory gland. Her thyroid and adrenals were not great of

course but it all seemed to stem from there.

I am very excited to explore this connection.

Best wishes,

Hi ,

Good luck - an issue with the pituitary gland might be more prevalent than we

realised.

Let us know how you get on.

Hi Isobel,

No as far as I am aware the two drugs are not the same.

Cortisol is the bodies anti-imflammatory agent. Your son might have been using

up his cortisol to fight whatever inflammation is going on leading to a low

cortisol level in his body. His adrenals may have been struggling to keep up.

The adrenal cortex will be helping the adrenals to recover and the antihistamine

might be taking the pressure off the body even more so allowing the cortisol

levels to rise. Just a theory Isobel!

The pregnenolone is only part of the story for my daughter, she really needs

hyrdocortisone, but, both the NHS and Dr Goyal are very loather to prescribe it.

But, I am hopeful that this will change soon.

Thanks Isobel,

I have done a trial of hydrocortisone and my daughter is several 100 percent

better on it - the difference is quite remarkable.

Isobel, I think that might be exactly what's going on....<<Cortisol is the bodies anti-imflammatory agent. Your son might have been

using up his cortisol to fight whatever inflammation is going on leading to a low cortisol level in his body. His adrenals may have been struggling to keep up. The adrenal cortex will be helping the adrenals to recover and the antihistamine might be taking the pressure off the body even more so allowing the cortisol levels to rise. Just a theory Isobel!>>Subject: Re: Re; HeadachesTo: Autism-Biomedical-Europe Date: Thursday, 17 November, 2011, 9:53

Thanks Isobel,

I have done a trial of hydrocortisone and my daughter is several 100 percent better on it - the difference is quite remarkable.
