If this is a first seizure then it may have turned out to have been a febrile

seizure: quite often these arrive before the fever starts! The family will know

by now. The baby is of the age when it is not rare to have febrile seizures. My

son had febrile seizures until he was 5 or 6 (but he also had a serious seizure

disorder which started when he was under a year old where he had many series of

seizures every day).

A diagnosis of epilepsy is not given with the first seizure. If a second one

happens then there should be a consideration of further investigation (I think

this is unless both seizures are clearly febrile).

Thank you Margaret, I will pass this on to the family. I haven't heard yet what

the hospital think. If the febrile seizure often happens before the fever, then

that might explain it.

Thank you Kate, my friend was very worried. Yes, I have Tracey's contact details

and thank you, that is a very good idea to contact her. I will see what my

friend wants to do and then ask Tracey if they can contact her.
