Guest guest
i spoke to my aunt who's a nurse in vermont. i was telling her about adam's plagio and helmet and she said she would ask the doctors up there about it. she spoke to a doctor named Saul who is a neonatologist at the University of Vermont. his opinion of the cause of plagio is "neglect." thought all of us 'neglectful' moms might want to know that. maybe some of us could send him some emails or regular mails (or phone calls!) so he can see for himself how neglectful we are of our children and their health problems. --pissed off, gaby, adam's mom in nj
Guest guest
That is probably the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard! What about those children who are BORN with plagio? This is the battles we have to fight to get our children help...and most of all, it's the battle we have to fight with the INSURANCE companies that have such a hard time approving the helmets! The good thing is...we're loving parents who LOVE and PROTECT our children. FAR from neglect! We just need to stand strong! Guest guest
Kat, I could not agree with you more. Jeffry was born with plagio! After the day he was born, we knew that his head was not round. Gaby, I would love to email you doctor. My Nero at "MAYO CLINIC" says that it is natural thing and that they are seeing it in more children today, but not because of neglect, but because of the campaign of back to sleep to reduce sids! What a joke that doctor is. I think that someone mentioned it here before that they feel as though they know more than the doctors do, that is how I fell now. Best of luck and I hope that your aunt does not work under this man! Heidi, mom to Jeffry, local Helmet, Mayo Clinic, MN RE: neglect That is probably the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard! Guest guest
Gaby, What an uneducated answer! Perhaps this guy is thinking of babies in China that are left virtually all day in cribs that get a flat head, which would constitute neglect, but if he were as educated on the subject as he thinks he is, he would have had a much better answer than what he came up with. I think his statement is really part of the problem of why people have such a hard time with their Doctors. They really do not understand how repositioning fails us- I feel they think we are lazy, and just didn't try hard enough (so not the case!!). I would love for Doctors to have a workshop, a study period, to find out just how hard repo is on a minute by minute basis, and yet, still manage to maintain a clean home and sanitary, loving environment without hired help to do it for you. I'll bet one weekend of that and they would be recommending banding in an instant! Plagio (and tort for that matter) are so much more complex than to wrap it up in even one sentence- from cause, to severity! I am going to write him a very unwanted email- just because that guy needs to hear it!

Guest guest
What about plagio that is caused by tort? This sickens me that medical professionals who are supposed to have a brain in their head don't educate themselves about these conditions? We should be the ones having the medical degrees if you ask me!!!! How can you call it neglect when we are doing everything we can to get our children treated (and for both conditions in some cases) instead of sitting back and listening to the doctors when they say "It will round itself out or it will get better in a few months". It is definitely neglect on their part for not diagnosing it or pushing it off as something that isn't worthy of treating. Thank you for sharing this...just another reason why we need to keep up the fight and make doctors listen!!! Guest guest
I tried to find this “drs.” email on the University of Vermont web site… no luck… Anyone else try? Well, Regan’s brachy was caused by sleeping on her back in the crib within her 1st and 2nd months of life. It wasn’t created in utero and she doesn’t have tort or ct. And I know I DIDN’T neglect her! Guest guest
, And the reason she slept on her back is b/c that is how you were told to sleep her. I bet none of your doctors or Regan's doctors ever stressed to you how important tummy time is! The doctors are the ones that are neglectful, NOT us parents. > I tried to find this " drs. Guest guest
We're doing EVERYTHING w/i our power to prevent SIDS by sleeping our babies on their backs....that's all there is to it. If that's considered " neglect " then be my guest & call me a " neglectful parent " .....that's a title I'll gladly take on to my name. I'm still riled up about this......jerk. Guest guest
i'm sure that's him. i must have spelled his name wrong. i'm so glad i'm not the only one outraged at this. my aunt even said, "this is the medical profession you're dealing with." i had all these responses to his remark but you know what -- how sad is it that we're here every day, trying to make the right decisions, having self-doubt now and then about our decisions and we're having to _defend_ ourselves to someone who should know better! i think it's great you guys found his email and all. is anyone thinking of emailing him? i feel like i want to educate HIM about what's what, you know? /gaby In a message dated 12/19/02 1:48:10 PM Eastern Standard Time, foxcall@... writes: Hey! there is this guy at the University of VT. Guest guest
These types of comments from professionals just make me sick to my stomach. What an ignorant bitter man. I ran into an ass like that once on the babycenter chat site. I asked the group if anyone had heard of plagio and if I could be directed to a group. I had one lady reply that she had heard of plagio and wasn't that " when babies were left on their backs too much? " That really pissed me off! My post did pay off though, because someone did tell me to check out ... If we are all neglectful, why are we all fighting so hard to help our babies? Wouldn't neglectful parents fail to notice something like a " flat spot " in the first place? If anything, it is the medical communities fault for not having a disclaimer with their " back to sleeping " campaign. I agree with the campaign, I just wish they would have told us that our babies had a chance of getting plagio by following their advise. As mad as I am over that comment, and as much as I'd like to email that jerk, I won't because I don't want to get Gaby's aunt in trouble. > > i spoke to my aunt who's a nurse in vermont. i was telling her about adam's > plagio and helmet and she said she would ask the doctors up there about it. > she spoke to a doctor named Saul who is a neonatologist at the > University of Vermont. his opinion of the cause of plagio is " neglect.
