Guest guest
Hi , I don't know if this will be of help, but, I have now found out that my daughter had a vascular insult at a very early age and one professional has suggested that this has lead to damage to her pituitary gland, particularly the anterior lobe which is now small. As a baby after 6 weeks or so when she had suspected meningitis, she droppped off the height charts, but, ballooned on the weight charts. All through her life, apart from 3 years between 6-8yrs, she has put weight on and is classed as obese, particularly truncal obesity with a very distended belly. I now know that there has been a hormone involvement since around the time of the vascular insult. The problem is getting the NHS to recognise it and getting them to treat it. They are too frightened to treat my daughter now even though she is 13.5years and her female development is 7 years behind. I am not sure what to suggest. I suspect that you are right that there is a hormone involvement with this child - this could be sugggested to the paediatrician and see if they will run some tests. Diabetes insipidous would be as a result of a pituitary issue. Could they do a MRI Scan of the pituitary? Have they ever done a scan? Hope that they get some help. > > A mother here that I met a while back got in contact with me for some help with her sons diet. > She had twins at 25 weeks and one of the twins had a blockage in the brain at birth. She sent me a photo of that twin and his belly is so distended that it is not just extended, it's overlapping and hanging. > In the past 18 mths the child has gained 8 kg and 2 of those kilos have been in the last three mths. His weight is 25.6 kilos compared to his twin of 16.6 kilos. They just turned 5. > I have tried to help her with diet and sent her all the right info and links but with such an increase in weight, diabetes type 2 and thyroid come to mind. > She's got an appointment in December with a pediatrician and I've told her to ring them and see if they can make it earlier but does anyone have any ideas about what the weight gain could be? > I just can't get this boy out of my mind after seeing the photo of him. I saw him 18 mths ago and his belly was completely normal now it's really big and everything takes such a long time here, the doctors are reactive not proactive so I just wanted to help her if I can. Any suggestions would be appreciated. > Thank you, > x >

Guest guest
Hi , My daughter is 15 yrs old , she is also quite tubby around her trunk. Her periods have been very sparse and infrequent and she is also hirstuism. We saw the Gp who felt she could have polycystic ovarian syndrome. She has had her hormones checkedand apparently they are normal, so she has been referred to an endocrinologist. I'll let you know if anything comes of it. Guest guest
Hi , I hope that the family get to the bottom of this. My daughter is currently doing very well thank you - no thanks to the NHS though! I have had to take things into my own hands. In August we saw an Endocrinologist who just confirmed what I already know i.e. she is in early puberty at most - no hormones given. In September we saw a neurologist who prescribed my daughter Amytriptyline for the severe daily headaches she was experiencing. She hasn't taken any as I knew that this was a hormonal headache. Since this appointment my daughter does not have the headaches any more, neither does she wake up with puffy fingers and stiffness all over, she now has energy that she has never had before, her social skills and eye contact have improved dramatically and she has started to lose weight. The transformation has been dramatic and it is all down to appropriate(6 different ones) hormone replacement which the NHS won't do! x > > > > A mother here that I met a while back got in contact with me for some help with her sons diet. > > She had twins at 25 weeks and one of the twins had a blockage in the brain at birth. Guest guest
Hi Sharon, Sorry to hear this. My daughter is not going into puberty at all - ovaries are the size of a 6 year old and she is 13.5. A private Professor in Endocrinology diagnosed Gonadotrophin Deficiency - the NHS will have none of it! I do hope that you get some help with this - you might need to look outside the NHS and the system to get anything done. Have you looked at iodine for PCOS, I have read alot about how this helps. Also a good book to read is 'The Safe Uses of Cortisol' by McK Jefferies - there is some very interesting material in there about using small, physiologic dosages of cortisol, oestrogen and thyroid for PCOS. It will be worth getting all of the test results togther with the reference ranges to see just where within those ranges your daughter's hormone levels are - they may be right at the bottom for example. I look forward to hearing how you get on. > > > > > > A mother here that I met a while back got in contact with me for some help with her sons diet. > > > She had twins at 25 weeks and one of the twins had a blockage in the brain at birth. Guest guest
Hi , I will look into iodine,as her diet is low in this. Guest guest
, That is brilliant news! Was that with the help of the private doctor? Has the constipation improved too? xx Hi , I hope that the family get to the bottom of this. Guest guest
Hi Sharon, It might be worth joining the iodine yahoo group for advice on which iodine to take and how much - I know that kelp tablets will not be supplying enough iodine. My daughter takes 50mg a day - this is in the form of one large tablet of Iodoral. > > > > > > > > > > A mother here that I met a while back got in contact with me for some help with her sons diet. > > > > > She had twins at 25 weeks and one of the twins had a blockage in the brain at birth. Guest guest
Hi , is doing well at the moment. I have taken him off all supplements, re introduced mag citrate (was causing major problems with low blood pressure and passing out when we were on such high doses of oxyp), increased digestive enzymes massively(caused die off), using diatom.E (caused die off)...also doing well on NP. We are down to 2 oxy p (were on regular doses of between 5 and 7). My mum squealed with delight the other day saying that was the first real conversation she has ever had with him! Others have noticed this too. He is much more calm and I have not been attacked for quite a while now. I was going to get in touch with you as I am hoping to see Dr.Peatfield and wanted your advise about the best tests to have done before going. I really need to get to the bottom of his temperature fluctuations (vary by up to 2 degrees in a day - hot head every 2 hours). I think you mentioned a saliva test - he won't do blood tests. I know I need to to the morning basal temperature but it is proving tricky as once he is awake he just wants to get up and won't lie still for 10 minutes! xx Hi , Isn't it just - I can't quite believe it myself! Dr Goyal is trying to help - he keeps writing to the endocrinologist about her low cortisol levels, but, he doesn't yet feel that he can prescribe it! I've done alot of reading and research and started my own treatment plan - we then saw Dr Peatfield on Saturday to see what he thought - he was very impressed and he is going to help me monitor Vicky. He made it clear though that I must keep quiet about what I was doing as I would probably get locked up. The constipation has improved as well as many, many other problems. How are things? xx > > > > > > > > A mother here that I met a while back got in contact with me for > > some help with her sons diet. > > > > She had twins at 25 weeks and one of the twins had a blockage in > > the brain at birth. Guest guest
Thanks , I need to read up and look into this. It is great to hear how well your daughter is doing now she has the right supplements her body needs. Would I need further testing to know how much iodine she needs or is there a standard amount for age and weight?
