hello megan,

i was reading a magazine in my doctor's surgery last week and it mentioned

exercise, it said that if your body mass is more than 35 you shouldn't do

anything without consulting your doctor first.

don't feel ashamed of it, with asthma it's sometimes difficult to lead an

active life, i put on more than 3 stones in weight recently, for no reason,

and was certainly surprised to learn i am obese, i thought i would be

overweight, but not obese.

i cannot walk up stairs without getting breathless, but there are other

things i can do more easily. when i go to the gym i love the treadmill, but

i can't do the rowing, or steps. i've been trying to learn to swim, i'm

rubbish at it, but it does seem to be the best exercise for asthmatics. my

muscles are very lazy, so to begin with i am going on some toning tables, to

tone up my muscles first. even though it's not aerobic exercise, it's still

using my muscles, and apparently it still raises the metabolism a little.

if you do go to a gym start off with something easy, and don't be persuaded

into doing anything you think is too hard. i found that gym staff don't

really understand asthma, and they think you are just being lazy when you

say you are going to miss out a machine, lol!

,

I agree with .

You have to get that rush to get weight off out of your head somehow or

it's going to feel like it's impossible to do.

One day at a time.

do not be ashamed - things happen to all of us which is sometimes our fault

and in the most times isn't.

I would suggest you talk to your primary care doctor before you embark on

any diet - especially in regard to your asthma. And take baby steps as it

is not going to happen overnight a huge weight loss.

Infact, today morning I wake up so early arround 5.15 am

and decided to do exercise.no more sleep or laziness

lol! well, infact I too have bad asthma attacks last

week which I feel mainly due to food which is

not digested properly.I dont how to express it.

but I have experienced that.I taken a advair

and waited 40 minutes then started doing yoga.

yesterday I had bad attack anyway.

I did very slowly, specially in the movements

I was very care full and slow.I have done for

an hour and you know when you do any kind of

exercise on morning you feel great.well,

after that I had breakfast now time here is arround

8-30 am.I dont whehter I may develop EIA with

in few hours or not.Infact I have finished my exercises

arround 7 AM.anybody have any idea EIA statrs

after how much time of exercise? well, infact when

I was doing yoga I didnt develop (I didnt do

hard stuffs anyway) but now I feel that something

is not so good in my lungs.may be now my lungs is

so sensitive kind of stuff!?!?!?I dont think this as

asthma attack but may turn as an attack.I am quite

excited since I was able to do some kind of

exercise with help of advair only.I dont know

taking salbutamol just before 15 minutes will

help or not? but I am already experiencing

a shaking which I get when I do exercise.

I am sure if use salbutamol then the shaking

increases.somehow advair doesnt give that much

shaking to me.I will tell you story tomorrow

whther I can able to do exercise or not.well,

in the meantime it will be great if can able to

learn more about exercises and asthma!I am rather

really dreaming to do exercise daily!

Wildthing,

Due to being disabled from a bad break in my hip and Asthma, I can't do

regular exercise either or walk well. But I can do a stationary bike at PT.

AND, I can do exercises in a pool. even jog in the pool, unthinkable

for me on land. Water walking for 10 minutes equates 2 hours of walking

on land. However, I admit to being lucky, our small community of 5000

chipped together, fund raised and built a pool that is sanitized with

Bromelain, not chlorine and is built to accommodate handicapped people.

It has a long ramp to get into the water and we have a special

wheelchair that can go into the water. People who have MS and are

wheelchair bound can 'walk' in there with flotation devices and help.

We keep the pool going by having annual fundraisers and a contract with

the PT department of our small hospital. for some reason the humidity in

in the pool does not bother me, seems to help. It's not like humidity

outside which does bother my asthma.

Yearly membership only costs me $ 175.- and I can go as much as I want.

That sounds good. i don't think it's anything like that here. and i've

tried to ride my bike at home but that made my asthma worse too even

with pre-medication.

i believe all of our asthmas are different that why the same thing that

works for one person won't work for another

that's why i'll try something that'll work for someone else just in case

it might work for me if i can

i do plan on going back to exercise but first i gotta get my asthma

under better control or at least try before i give up hope on my asthma

doctor's say i should have 5 good days out of 7...this week i haven't

had any good days...last week i had only 1 that not under control or

maybe i'll just go back on exercising as long as i can still pull myself

out of attacks at home maybe that is my best

everyone's different

we all have asthma but our asthma's are still different

I'm glad exercising is working for you for the better though...i'm happy

I also have had to cut right back with my walking programme unless I use

Ventolin beforehand [the rescuer] & then take lots of short breaks here and

there along with restricting how far and gradient.

I have been advised to start small AGAIN but I don't know what exactly that

means :-) and I'm scared basically :-(

I also have had to cut right back with my walking programme unless I use

Ventolin beforehand [the rescuer] & then take lots of short breaks here and

there along with restricting how far and gradient.

I have been advised to start small AGAIN but I don't know what exactly that

means :-) and I'm scared basically :-(

Like I said before everyone's asthma is different.

The ones that do sports have well controlled mild asthma as far as I

known.

Otherwise they would be having asthma attacks while they were exercising

like me. And wouldn't be able to continue.

Even when pre-medicated.

Can't exercise today neither breathing isn't good enough.

HUGS!!!

HOPE YOU HAVE A LESS SCARY DAY TODAY!
