Guest guest
Sunny- It sounds like your in good hands with your ortho! Sounds like he has a lot of experience. My friend is an OB. I bet she wouldn't be able to tell you how many babies she has delivered! After you get to a significant number, you sometimes stop counting! LOL! It's always a good idea to check though! My orthotist informed me that he has been doing on the average 5 helmets a month for at least the last 3 years. He also said that out of those helmets, 75% are STAR bands. (So I assume about 40 Star bands a year.) The only thing that worried me is that 1) he said he couldn't tell me the approximate number of STAR bands he has actually worked with (he kept on saying " I don't know " or " I can't say " , but you would think that if he has been working with it only 3 years, that he could give me at least an approximation), and 2) during the initial consult., in response to my inquiry, he stated that he did have before and after pictures. But on the second appt, he could only show me one patient's pics (no before pictures at all) of an exit casting and the actual " after " was her wearing a material over her head for the exit cast so it was hard to tell the results. I assumed that it was for a STAR band but on our third appt., he clarified that it was some other local helmet he did a while ago. > > So, it is still not clear to me how much actual experience with the STAR band he has. I went with him bec. he was a recommendation from a neurologist from a well known children's hospital and at the initial consult the orthotist told me that he has " a lot " of experience with the STAR band (and at the time said he has before and after pictures). > > We have a call into our neurologist to get more clarification as to the orthotist's experience since the orthotist himself can't say how many STAR bands he actually has done. > > Anyways, the appointments seem to go ok so far. My son has had one adjustment and we are scheduled to go in for another in a couple of days. > > Wish us luck! > > Sunny >
