Guest guest
Hi Sue, Melt here; I did have the orthroscopic (sp?) surgery on my knee before the replacement. They went in to clean it out and found it was totaly trashed so my next step was replacement. That was 3 years ago. The first was an outpatient surgery and you go home the same day. I hope this helps give you a little info. Good luck, till soon, Patty -- In Stillsdisease@y..., " A. I was not sleeping at all, and went two days on a 48 hour period of no sleep at all and I was a little off the wall. The pain was so bad that I was crying a lot and just couldn't get comfortable, so I started to " flare " some and couldn't walk or anything, right before Christmas, but somehow made it through and it was nice to be with my family and have the support that I always do have. I saw my Rheumy today and he said that my left knee is very bad and wants me to see an orthopedic surgeon very soon and says that he needs to go in and clean out the knee with small scope. Has anyone every had this before. He said that it is the knee rubbing against the bone and that's why it is clicking and making so much noise. It feels very " brittle " he said and says that it should be done very soon, but I wonder how often I will have to have this done? Anyone here know? Well, I missed you all very much, hope that your holiday was nice and pain free also. I am here now and thank you once again for all the support and cards and just wonderful letters that I received. They all meant the world to me, and I apologize for not getting my Christmas cards out, I really do. I was really having a hard time of it. I am back on the prednisone again for several weeks and this stresses me too......I hate it, but he is keeping a close eye on me again, so I will keep you posted. Much love to everyone, I thought about you every day. > Love, Sue #2 > > >
Guest guest
Hi Sue, I have been planning to write to you but am still trying to get my thoughts together. I have a lot of " over-acheiver " information that was helpful to me. I will send it to you soon, I promise. On the knee surgery, I did have the " scope " surgery on my right knee in 1997. The surgery was not for the same reasons as your, exactly. I had grinding noise in the knee and lots of deep, aching pain. They vacuumed out debrie that was causing pain and released tension on my knee cap. The surgery was easy, but recovery was long. I had to teach my whole leg how to work again. I was on crutches for about 5 months before surgery and about 3 months after. It sounds to me that if you have bone on bone, you don't have any miniscus left. (the cushion between the joints) That can be very painful. In my case, if I do damage to my knee by abusing it, or falling, I will have to have the same surgery again. I just try to avoid the things that will cause damage. Rehabbing the knee was very difficult in my case, but that does not mean it would be for you. Hope this helps. Caroline " A. Guest guest
Sue Honey i have had several of those cleaning out scopes your rheumy wants you to see an ortho about. since 1993 i have had 8 scopes to clean it out and 1 patella realighnment. The scopes have lasted about a year for me but after each scope i have to be on crutches for 12 weeks no weight bearing and physcial therapy but that is because i have the Avascular Neucrosis in the knee and it sounds like the clicking and brittle feeling that you may have some of the also do you get a catching feeling in the knee where it feels its caught on something and you have to kind of yank it back out. thats how i have torn alot of the ACLs. and other ligamrnts in the knee. personally if you can live with the pain i would advise no dont have it. I need it on my right but iam going to live with it as long as i can.basaically they can scope for awhile and clean it out to save having the knee replacement right away. remeber this is just my experience and opion love ya connie
