Guest guest
The Carseat proved to be our biggest problem in our first cast. The recovery room nurse took us out and helped us fit in his carseat. He was just not fitting in it very well at all. She told us to purchase the Britax Marathon or Boulevard when we got home. They are very expensive, but when I placed him in it, it was as if it was made for the cast. The recline is perfect and stopped the cast from digging into his legs. I am not an expert, but can tell you it helped us! Catie, 's mom (1st cast, 11 mo, 67 degrees to 20 degrees in cast) Subject: plastic pants and carseat help!!To: infantile_scoliosis Date: Monday, November 23, 2009, 1:19 AM Hello all,I must say thanks about the advice on the Kushies/plastic pants. Since our cast change a couple days ago they have saved us overnight twice now!!Isaiah's cast is much lower than his last and is anchored at the hips now which has made diapering a bit more challenging. The biggest problem we just found out today is i think the cast is putting pressure on his legs in his carseat. It doesnt seem to bother him in the stroller or short car rides so im not sure but on our 3 hr car ride today he cried. He never cries during car rides and when we checked his legs they had red marks. i wonder if its cutting off his circulation and giving him pins and needles feeling? I hate to go get the cast trimmed back in Dallas. Has anyone else experienced this and what did you do?? Could i lean the carseat back somehow or put towels under the cast to cusion it? Would that even work??Any advice?? Thanks!

Guest guest
We have the Eddie Bauer Convertible 3 in 1 car seat and it was been perict for casting. It is $100 and fits kids 5 - 100 lbs. It has been wonderful and very comfortable. There are 3 reclining settings which make it easy to get him comfortable and the height of the straps are so easy to adjust for when he is out of his cast and is about 2 inches shorter. If you are looking at getting a new carseat for casting this one is a much cheaper alternative then the Britax and Cole loves it. JennMommy to Cole, 22 months, 3rd cast from Rochester, 18 degrees out of cast down from 47, chiari malformation.

Guest guest
We always take our car seat from home with and make sure that when he sits in it he is not having any problems before we leave SLC. Also the last time our Dr. told us to put a towel under the child's butt and this helps take some pressure off of the legs.Beth Rettinger Mother Of In First Cast From SLCSubject: plastic pants and carseat help!!To: infantile_scoliosis Date: Sunday, November 22, 2009, 8:19 PM Hello all, I must say thanks about the advice on the Kushies/plastic pants. Guest guest
We use the Britax Boulevard, too! We use a travel car seat that is lighter for the plane, COSCO brand from Target. 50 dollars. Guest guest
Well we drove 2 hours total today (not all at once but round trip) one hour to Killeen and then one hour back to Austin and he did fine. No crying and even some sleeping but he still had some redness at the hips this time. Maybe its a combo of the cast rubbing the hips plus the diaper. Im still trying to figure it out....hopefully the carseat will be ok after all. BTW his neurosurgeon wants to do an MRI of the brain again for his chiari so we will drive from KS to Dallas for his cast change on 01-29-10 and then to Austin for an MRI and see the doc again on 02-01-10. So that means GA on friday for the cast and then GA again to sedate for the MRI. Does it ever end???? Im frustrated and exausted and we just got started....
