Guest guest
Hi Bonnie! I'm new to asthma myself. My first attack was 2 months ago and I've been having one after the other for one reason or another. Yesterday was my first day without an attack all day and I have no idea what I did different and I didn't have one today at all until I did my weekly exercise so I don't know. Still learning. Wish I could help you more. Sounds like we just in it together. HUGS!!! Guest guest
Hi Retirement: A word of advice. The Pnuemonia going around today does not respond well to antibiotics except one Zithromician. If it does not clear up request it immediately this antibiotic it might save your life. Get well before you try excercising. Excise increases your life span but good health is necessary or fair health excercising with common sense to gain good health. When sick though stop and allow the body the needed time and rest to heal. Walt Re: asthma and exercise - me too Hi,I was just diagnosed with pneumonia on Monday and the pcp indicated asthma was also involved. When can I safely exercise without bringing on an attack. Also, are these attacks and/or ongoing asthma problems hard on your body - decreasing you life span. Please write back - Bonnie

Guest guest
Hi Walt, Thank you very much for your concern. I have been prescribed Tequin/400mg-once daily for ten days and I am seeing much improvement. In addition, I am taking Advair 100/50 one puff, twice daily and Singular as my maintenance drugs from now on. I do enjoy exercising but will wait a few more days. Thanks to everyone for this good daily information. I get excited when I see a post. God Bless - Bonnie
Guest guest
There asthma is that happens when you exercise - I notice you have also have pneumonia - I would concentrate on getting over this before I thought of re-introducing exercise again. I was/am having problems with what I called my exercise which as a fairly long but not fast walk for other health problems and then when the Asthma kicked in I found I couldn't walk much further than the next block. And now I don't want to have to stop get out the spacer device and the puffer and deal to it anywhere on said walks as it was sure to be in a public place! with onlookers :-)) Last week my doc/ said " people who play sport like rugby [i'm in NZ national sport <g>] who are also asthmatic take 2 puffs of Ventolin [reliever] 15mins before the start of the game and it helps them " I replied " but I didn't equate my walk to anything a RUGBY player did! " and he replied " but walking for any length of time or any other exercise is in the same category. I still haven't got out walking yet - but I know I'm going to use the Reliever before I leave etc :-) But hey don't go and do this without checking with your health professional because I'm fast discovering that what we do in New Zealand health treatment wise is way different to what is happening elsewhere! I found alot of info on this website YMMV http://asthma.about.com/ in New Zealand Are you thinking of coming NZ then check out this Map Search facility for lots of different towns and cities - street directory - zoom features etc http://www.wises.co.nz/
Guest guest
>The doctor should been able to tell you when it's safe for you my doctor >told me just till the attack comes that the attack means it's time to >stop and rest. Marie not only stop and rest but take the reliever :-) and then stop and rest and look at what caused it - maybe right then and there - maybe it was something you did yesterday or even the day before that. i have started keeping a health, weather and activity diary in an attempt to pinpoint things etc in West Auckland, NZ Cyber Hugs for today/yesterday/tomorrow

Guest guest
Marie Ventolin is the one I use but maybe in your country it's something else. It's for short term - open up the airways use - which become swollen when you have an asthma attack. I use it as soon as the symptoms start up which seem to be tight chest in my case........ The other medications either inhaler or pills are preventatives in the main which you take regularily whether not you are experiencing symptoms or not. They keep your condition [once in normal mode] on the top grade. With adults it usually means the rest of your life with children it's different. I have other health to which there are no regular fix-its via mainstream medicine soooooo I'm really pleased that given time I might start to feel a whole lot better - in fact I already am after less than 2mths of top end/high dosage treatment. I was just looking at my Peak Flow chart today and I'm sooooooo pleased with myself - hip, hip, happy!!! I've gotten upto Young Adult breathing roll on Older Adult <chuckles, chuckles, chuckles> At 03:30 11/03/2004, you wrote: >What's the reliever ? > >HUGS!!! > MARIE >KISS ME I'M IRISH! >mother of Tomas-spinal bifida, hydrophaleus, sciolosis, >right ear deafness, epilepsy (Tonic-clonic, absence, complex partial, >simple partial, atonic, myoclonic), left-field blindness, tethered cord, >allergies, ezema, lazy eye >Anastasia-ezema, allergies, nosebleeds >-mild mental disability(MMD),ezema, allergies, asthma > > > > >

I wanted a new bed! I called the Asthma foundation and I spoke to the field officer who was appalled at the case officers comments that she had asthma all her life and she didn't need a new bed sooooo why should I! And the field officer suggested I get a skin sensitivity test done to " see " what my trigger/s were - then if it turned out be dust mites she would help me with new bed grant!! So I'm having the test done next Monday but in turn I jumped in and out of the car rushing about and at some point I realised I was breathing funny and my chest was tightened so I got the Ventolin puffer out - I had parked the car <g> and got 2 puffs into the system - spent another 10mins sitting quietly and then felt better! I think I mentioned I have other health issues and have been on an Invalids Benefit for some many years - this a government benefit which means I can work for whatever reason and have the ailment more than xyz years etc. Autumn [fall] officially kicked in March 1st although change of school season clothing doesn't kick in for another few months :-) so it's partially Summer and for some older folk maybe it's not :-)))

Guest guest
Hi, I drove over to the pcp's office in order to get my sick certificate for this week being off. The certificate reads " seen in the office 3/8/04 and has possible pneumonia " . This statement did not clearly state it was pneumonia. The pcp passed the window so I ask him if I did or did not have pneumonia. He said there was a filtrate and was probably pneumonia. What does this mean? Thank you - Bonnie
