We have seen him as he's at our local childrens hospital (sheffield).  I believe he is a good gastro Dr and has developed new ways of endoscopy however he was not prepared to discuss gut/brain connection.  When I mentioned about ADHD/autism type biochemistry he asked why I was talking to him about it as he is a gut doctor and may be my GP could put me onto the right person. I was surprised by this as on his private wesite (as he also has a clinc at Portland, London) it mentions qualification in nutrition.  He did however recommend pro biotic but it was wrong sort and totally wrong dose.

At the time I had made the connection between food and his constant distress. Dr T was also really good at referring on to allergy team when necessary.Charlie was very young at the time (around 8 months) and his team were willing to scope him.  If you are wanting tests then I think it's a good move.  I resisted at the time as he was so young and I was scared of the effect og anasthetic - now I know his genetics and poor methylation status it was the best decision I could have made

He is VERY well thought of on the 'living with reflux' forum (they think he is god)! and he is their medical advisor.Let us know how you get on.

Hello Tahira,

Hope you don't mind me butting in. My son saw gastroenterlogists at the Chelsea

and Westminster in London 3 years ago. Thse of us with older children remember

a time when it was very difficult to get an autistic child's gut iussues looked

into by the medical profession: this was in the wake of the Lancet article and

Dr Wakefield's comments about the MMR at a press conferecnce. For sme years

no-onw would see our children. In our case the local paediatrician blocked

referral for several years.

Things seem to be better now - but I would really strongly advise you don't try

and talk about autism or about vaccines with the gastroenterologist. Just talk

about the gut problems and other identified health problems: they have a duty to

treat your child and to investigate him if they think it clinically justified

just like any other child with the same physical symptoms.

I hope this helps,

Margaret
