Guest guest
Dear all, Well..I do not know about JNBH but I am sure JNGH residents must have participated in this " Paneer Hunt " ..sometime during their Sewagram stay. I was cooking Matar-Paneer yesterday. I made Paneer cubes and when I finally mixed the cubes with my cooked peas..the paneer cubes looked abnormally large to me..!! He he he..and that was when I was reminded of the gr8 " Paneer Hunt " at JN girls' hostel...! I hope u remember..dont u ?? Whenever we got to know that there is Matar Paneer for Lunch-- 1)We use to make sure we reached well in time 2) During the actual hunt the task was not easy. We had to identify the micro paneeer pieces out of the gravy and also distinguish them from the similar looking and same size potato cubes..aaahhhh.! The task was not easy..but..u see practise makes a 'woman' ( I am talking abt JNGH)..perfect! But whatsoever ...it was fun to sit and eat with friends either in the Mess/ TV room.... I really miss..my old days..the Paneer hunt..and all the excitement and fun! Ayesha '
Guest guest
it must have been paneer for the youngsters but in 'the good old days' there was no paneer. Our aim in life was to get an extra helping of Ram Bharose's mithai on Sunday lunch. whether we ate it or not was out of question. The acquiring was more important. Also getting fresh alu parathas were goals. I was friendly with the maharaj so parathas were not a problem... but Patil was another story for the mithai. does bring back memories. cheers Malini " Paneer Hunt " Dear all, Well..I do not know about JNBH but I am sure JNGH residents must have participated in this " Paneer Hunt " ..sometime during their Sewagram stay. Guest guest
Dear all, At our times cottage cheese was an expensive comodity (for the mess)... We used to do a " mutter hunt " - most of the seniors would polish off the peas and all we would have was the potatoes in a thin gravy! Guest guest
Dear Ayesha,Malini, Neeti and Ravin, Reading all your comments on the mess I remembered our old days. Paneer and all we could not dream even. Vegetable always used to be appetite depressant. Then there was fight between Panjabi Vs Maharashtrian. So there was Besan (as maharshtian Delicacy???) when Rajama was prepared in the mess considering it to be Panjabi Delicacy. Ofcourse we used to eat both the things ( although both used to be equally bad.) We used to prepare Pyajki Chatani ourselves sitting next to Mahraj on the corner of the big Tawa. This really fresh and tasty dish was a matter of envy for others specially the seniors. They used to force the mess boys to prapare the same for them. Once the mess boy had put lot of salt and served the same to them ( Probably ?? Gadre Boss) and accepted the beating from him happily. The thin layer of the Roti was also prperty of the seniors while thicker layer was for juniors only. We were eagerly waiting for 75 batch. After becoming seniors sometime we used to come back from Wardha walking after the late night movie.and used to feel hungry. Then there was no other go but to break open the lock of mess and make either Potato Onion mixed Veg prepared on our own with stolen bread from somebody's room. Occasinally sweet Shira of potatoes was another dish for these late night food. These were the dishes we enjoyed most while getting ready for the enquiry next day. Although grumbling for the food at Sewagram we all had put on weight by 10 Kiloes at least during the stay. Was the loving atmosphere making this change?
