Guest guest
Hi - The story about you and nada on the bridge is terrifying. I'm so glad you are still with us. I'm sure you know how incredibly intelligent grey parrots are! That story about the female and the coffee made me laugh out loud. It's amazing that they have such a laser-like perception. There's nothing more fulfilling that the love of a dear pet, and she sure proved her love for you! As for your eating disorders, I learned to use food to soothe and numb myself from nada. She did the same, so I understand how hard it is to stuggle with food. My medication has helped, and talking about it has helped immensley. I'm glad you're with us, Hugs, Rosemary

Guest guest
Hi & Rosemary, I too laughed about 's parrots' reactions to her nada; truly amazing birds. (My cats do not like my nada, and usually don't even come out from under the bed when she is visiting.) Rosemary, can you tell me which medications help you with the eating disorder? I have struggled with being overweight my entire adult life. I am still fighting bulemia. (Yes, when I lived at home mealtimes were a stressy nightmare; nada made me eat things that nauseated me, and made me eat when I wasn't hungry. When stressed to the breaking point, I would vomit. The sense of control it gave me was soothing, but now I can see the destructive results: esophagitis, acid reflux, rotten teeth, etc And I'm still morbidly obese, to boot.) Thanks for your help, DollyHy > Hi - > > The story about you and nada on the bridge is terrifying. I'm so glad > you are still with us. Guest guest
Hi , I know that feeling of wanting to get away from her. We would go somewhere, (of course under her specified conditions) and we'd have a good time! Yet it never failed that on the way home, she'd get upset, and the day would end up ruined. There were times I found myself clutching the steering wheel, white knuckled, thinking that as we drive up her circled driveway......., I'm going to tell her to jump and not even bother slowing down! lol. I'd never do that but it did help me get her there and still have some sort of humor left. Too many times I found myself driving back and she's telling me the same thing over and over again.( 6-8 times in a row) I would kindly remind her that she had just told me that and she'd go quiet. When we'd arrive back at her place, she'd tell my dad how disrespectful I am, how sarcastic. My dad would try to smooth the way by saying, " both of my girls need to listen to each other better. " I looked over at my dad and said, " How many times do you need to be told the same thing before you get it, dad? Mom thinks I need to hear it 6 or more times! " I hated it when he did this. He never used to. I think this was his way of defusing the situation and taking the wind out of her sails.I guess he hoped I'd be grateful he didn't just give me hxll. arg! Nada didn't like my cats either, and strange as it may seem, it was as though they knew when to use the litter box. All four of them! It was like they waited in line! Hilarious. They became her main reason for not coming over, which was fine with me, gave me more time to spend with my dad. However, that didn't stop her from calling the house 6- 10 times in an hour while he was here. I've been reading UBM and I'm not sure what my nada would be. Is it possible that she could have all four personality types? She sure swings through all of them! See ya'll later, 0 Miscellaneous stuff There was one time that I started to kill my mother and myself. It wasn't premeditated. She was on vacation and staying with me. After a couple of days I was pretty stressed. I was driving the car with her in the passenger seat. She was nagging at me about something, I don't remember what any more. As I drove over an overpass I turned the wheal and started to drive the car off the bridge. I was driving at freeway speeds. I expect it would have killed us to go over the side of the bridge. At the last second I consciously realized what I was doing and turned the car back to the road. It still frightens me that I was so close to doing that, and without even bringing my conscious mind in on it. Actually vacations are normally times my mother is pretty fully decompensated. Some of it is almost amusing. Like the time she was the first person to sleep on my new futon in the guest room. After her first night on it, in the morning, she sits on it and then asks me if it is comfortable. That same trip, I was heating the house with space heaters because I hadn't yet been able to afford to fix the heat ducts. She was sitting right next to a space heater. She complained about the temperature, but it was too much for her to adjust the heater. I bought her a VCR a couple of years ago as a gift. I hooked it up for her and showed her how to use it. She has never used it and says it is too complicated to put a tape into it. My parrots both hate her. When they met her, my male gray chased her around the house and tried to bite her feet. As funny as I found this, it got him scolded and caged. My female gray is smarter. She has a congenitally deformed hip and is mildly handicapped. She purposefully spent several minutes working a cup of coffee until she spilled it down mother's back. Then she sat there and looked so surprised, with the " It was an accident, I'm the crippled bird " look on her face. I'm sure it puts me in the PA hall of fame, but I still think this was hilarious. Female parrot is on my lap as I type this, and I think maybe she needs some extra kisses right about now.

My mother always complained that animals don't like her. Course not - she is so loud and jumpy, and her quick movements startle animals. And if an animal is black, she is terrified of it. Is that animal racism? Animals can be so sensitive and caring around people with special needs. But they can also put the ones who deserve it in their places! and Tinker (the bad black dog)
Guest guest
Hi Dolly- I was diagnosed with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (she though that's what caused my eating disorder), and my Dr. gave me Prozac. It's been discovered in studies that very low doses can work as well as the high doses they were originally giving people. But there are many new medications that are helpful; Paxil, Zoloft, etc. If you see a Dr. that understands BPD and the effect it has on KO's, you should be able to get a medication that will help you. It took me so long to finally talk to my Dr. about these problems. We all know how hard it is for a KO to ask for help. Our needs have been ignored for so long, we try not to feel them anymore. But that infection is festering under the surface, and it will only get worse unless we ask for help. Now I understand that it probably wasn't OCD, but my childhood that cause my eating and other self soothing behavior. I've been on the medication for about two years, and since I found this group and read SWOE and UtheBM I've made so much progress that I'm lowering my dosage with my Dr.'s help, and may even be able to go off of it completely. Good luck, Rosemary

Guest guest
" And if an animal is black, she is terrified of it. Is that animal racism? " Oh my. If we can ever get enough distance to not be in pain, I think we could all become great comedians. My mother has a cat that she says she loves, but he is the most neurotic, timid, constipated, sickly, messed up cat. I used to make fun of him, but then I realized how much he and I have in common, except that I escaped, and he never will. > > > > > My parrots both hate her. Guest guest
Thanks, Rosemary, I guess my next step is to research Dr.s in my area that specialize in treating adult Kids of BP moms and wimpy dads. I'm in So. Cal, so I should be able to locate a few of 'em. Thanks again! I think she meant me as a tiny baby, before I turned 'bad', i.e. developed a mind of my own at age 18 months.
Guest guest
My Mom likes cats and dogs. She likes them more than people. She liked them more than kids, 'cause pets " don't talk back. " She has nine cats and one dog. My Dad cleans up after them. They are her babies. Pets can be trusted. People cannot. Guest guest
, OH too funny > > > > My mother has a cat that she says she loves, but he is the most > > neurotic, timid, constipated, sickly, messed up cat. My mom had a dog that she " saved " . The poor thing was a bit tempermental to begin with and ended up on Prozac. > I think she meant me as a tiny baby, before I turned 'bad', i.e. > developed a mind of my own at age 18 months. Nada school strikes again. My mom always said she was great with babies. It was when babies got older that she didn't couldn't handle them. When my sister and I were in high school she decided she wanted to adopt an infant girl and it could share our room. I was sane enough to remind her that she couldn't deal with the children she had. She pointed out that was because we don't know how to behave and we're older. She was always good with babies. Thank goodness that child never made it into our family. j > >
