Guest guest
,This is very interesting!! I called up animal feed companies last year and also visited feed stores and found out that generally farmers do not specifically ask for iodine containing feed for livestock, that the udders more often than not are cleaned with hypochlorite and less nowadays with iodine.Subject: Iodine Deficiency in UK CowsTo: Autism-Biomedical-Europe Date: Sunday, 16 October, 2011, 10:40 Hi All, This may be of interest to some - we probably consumed some of our daily iodine in cows milk in the past. There probably is not much iodine in cows milk if the cows are deficient themselves! This was in last week's Farmer's Weekly about how big a problem this is becoming in the UK and how iodine deficiency is causing death at birth of the calves amongst other things. If anyone is interested, here is the discussion: http://www.fwi.co.uk/community/forums/iodine-deficiency-in-cows-63896.aspx

Guest guest
Hi everyone My 17 year old autistic daughter tested very low for iodine on a 24 hour urine test. Her thyroid T3 level was low although T4 was normal. She has been generally unwell for the last 5 months with severe OCD behaviours ,severe anxiety, virtually no sleep, grey looking complexion, cold hands, severely miserable. No one from the NHS has given us any help in working out how to treat her. We have been using iodised salt and kelp tablets. Does anyone have any advice raising iodine/T3 levels ? Should we be using lugols iodine or thyroxine? All advice is welcome Kath Sent from my iPad

Guest guest
Kath, These are two groups I've found helpful http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormones/ and http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/iodine/ My daughter had been on Armour for several years until it was reformulated in 2006. It then seemed to no longer support her. We have not been able to find a natural combo like Armour that she can tolerate. In addition to T3 and T4 prescriptions, she now uses 5% lugols daily[3-5gtts]. The kelp, dulse and iodized salt was not helping enough. > > Hi everyone > > My 17 year old autistic daughter tested very low for iodine on a 24 hour urine test. > Her thyroid T3 level was low although T4 was normal. Guest guest
Hi Kath, Low T3 is not good - also check out this group: Thyroid Patient Advocacy group UK www.tpa-uk.org.uk They will be able to give you good advice re: treating the thyroid. The iodine group will help with the iodine dosages, but, my understanding is that you will still need to treat the thyroid with thyroid hormone - not necessarily thyroxine. TPA will advise you on this, they will need the test results with the reference ranges. My daughter (13.5yrs) is on 50mg of iodoral a day, I am on 62.5mg. We uses iodoral as my daughter finds it easy to swallow. I have lugols as well which I give to the dog and the chickens and use it for extra dosage on my chest at night if it feels bad. I feel better at 62.5mg than 50mg and am going to try going higher soon. Both mine and my daughter's thyroid swelled up at first, but, after a week or so returned to normal size - this showed that we needed the iodine! mary > > Hi everyone > > My 17 year old autistic daughter tested very low for iodine on a 24 hour urine test. > Her thyroid T3 level was low although T4 was normal. Guest guest
I thought that you find this interesting . Typical of farmers that only when it is costing them money that they address the problem! We would have got iodine as well from when they used to dip the udders before milking. The hypochorite they use now is very strong. I hope this makes more people consider their iodine intake. > > > Subject: Iodine Deficiency in UK Cows > To: Autism-Biomedical-Europe > Date: Sunday, 16 October, 2011, 10:40 > > > > > > > > >  > > > > > > > > > > Hi All, > > > > This may be of interest to some - we probably consumed some of our daily iodine in cows milk in the past. Guest guest
and it caused me a lot of swelling in my ankles. I have now gone off it and will try another way now to help my thyroid. It was the best course of action in the summer as I had a frozen shoulder which was stressing me out pain-wise. Guest guest
Hi, So the best way I found for getting iodine absorbed was to use the tincture, drop it on the skin and let it dry in it's drop. This is also a good way of seeing how deficient you are. If it disappears really quickly, say with 6 hours then you are really in need. My son took a course of cytomel while we did the drops and after one course his T3, T4 and TSH returned to normal. T3 – some T3 is converted from T4. It also is more transient than T4 and leaves the system quicker so you cannot build store of it. I actually found that when I was on the T3 that I had swollen hand in the moring and retained water more, only while I was on T3. T3 is quite expensive, I had to get specials sing off when I was in Australia to get it. Not sure how it works here in the UK. I would recommend finding a good endocrinologist. Warm Regards Una Parkes > > > > > > Hi everyone > > > > > > My 17 year old autistic daughter tested very low for iodine on a 24 hour urine test. > > > Her thyroid T3 level was low although T4 was normal. Guest guest
Kath, Tri-Quench is just Potassium Iodide. I started off with Triquench, but, only got results when I went onto Iodoral. According to the iodine group you need iodine as well as potassium iodide. Lugol's or Iodoral provide both. You can buy Lugol's from here: www.bobbyshealthyshop.co.uk Iodoral is sold by Nutricentre. Seek Natural also sell it. > > > I really recommend Triquench > > http://www.tahomadispensary.com/istar.asp?a=6 & id=110067!162 > > >
