Guest guest
Our office has been hearing that families started to receive letters from DCH requesting their financial information so that they could start to bill premiums April 1, 2004. It is our sense that there is still hope that these premiums can be defeated in the legislature; however, the Department of Community Health is laying the groundwork to implement the premiums assuming everything goes according to their plan (which is that 1) the legislature OKs the premiums by cutting funds to the waiver program, thereby necessitating the premiums, and 2) that CMS OKs the changes to the waiver program). Here is what we suggest you do at this point: copy your legislators on the information you provide to DCH and let them know what is happening. Here is an idea of how you could get started: Dear legislator: I understand that CMS (the Center for Medicaid and Medicare Services) has not approved the 1115 TEFRA/ Beckett waiver at this time, nor has the legislature approved the funding for such premiums. I am only providing this information to DCH so that I will not lose my child's waiver, but want you to know that I am submitting this letter to you to protest the premiums. Please be sure to include your personal comments. Thanks for your continuing efforts. le Doughman Program Associate Governor's Council on Developmental Disabilities Register for Disability Day at the Capitol on February 26, 2004! www.gcdd.org
