Guest guest
Hi Has anyone used prozac successfully (for autism that is). Tom's been taking it for 5 weeks at very low dose (not yet up to dose of 10) and no improvement at all. He's had a terrible summer and is frankly not unlike a wild animal. We're having to get extra respite as we're not in a good place to put it mildly, I feel that if hte prozac was going to help at 10 mg (?) if would show a sign of helping at 9. Tom is banging his head very hard, he's developed some weird OCD thing where he drops to his knees, he needs someone pressed up against him all the time and he's just beside himself. THis has been the worst summmer for Tom ever. I want to stop the Prozac. The paed says keep going. WHat wouold you do? THe paed has also said she's happy for us to do biomed. NO cigar though, I just think she has run out of ideas for Tom and realises they haven't helped despite their insistence two years ago that we leave it all to them. She's happy with enzymes, happy with supps, not happy with adrenal support and last time refused to run bloods because they'd only show abnormal results and we'd " start anotehr series of appointments that didn't yield anything " , End of my tether - everyone is letting Tom down again. What would do you? S Steph
Guest guest
I would want to know if he has any of the genetic issues that would contraindicate an SSRI in the first place (like a tryptophan 2-3 dioxygegenase defect), any of the genes in the tryptophan to melatonin pathway are affected and whether without Prozac the metabolites in his tryptophan > melatonin pathway are normal.KenSubject: ProzacTo: Autism-Biomedical-Europe Date: Saturday, 1 October, 2011, 15:00 Hi Has anyone used prozac successfully (for autism that is). Guest guest
We had much the same experience w Wellbutrin years ago but not able to get any testing done w our US provider. I did not keep my daughter on it and would not be open to using an ssri again for her. It seemed to add to her agitation. Do you have a recent OAT? It sounds to me like he's in pain. This came across a couple of days ago http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aUCCdCecLTo & feature=related Dr Blaylock w many good ideas w an understandable presentation. > > > Subject: Prozac > To: Autism-Biomedical-Europe > Date: Saturday, 1 October, 2011, 15:00 > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Â > > > > > > > > > > Hi > > > > Has anyone used prozac successfully (for autism that is). Guest guest
so sorry to hear Steph two things come to mind here: one is ibuprofen (have you tried), the other is propranolol. Helps with agression/rages/self-harm, has been used a lot in psych settings. She should be aware of research, if not I can forward you loads. Guest guest
Hi Steph My daughter who is now 17 was tried on Prozac a few years ago. She had Strange reaction to it and became hyperactive and manic almost straight away. It was so marked that we didn't continue for longer than a few weeks.I have since read that Prozac is full of fluoride which of course is a neuro toxin and has an adverse effect on thyroid function. I personally would not continue with anything which is having such an adverse effect. Hope things improve soon Kath Sent from my iPad

Guest guest
Hello again , so do we think SSRIs are a mistake with neuroexcitotoxity? Tom has tried literally every OTC remedy Dr Blaylock suggests here. NOt sure whether he's saying " I'ts too late, damage is done " or perhaps that we've been under dosing. The D3 advice is quite extreme isn't it? As D3 is a hormone more than a vit. Interesting stuff but not sure how to relate it to Tom as he's been the anti inflammatory king for the past forever. Maybe we should up the doses, he does weigh more now (thank god) due to risperidone, which we've now stopped dosing, thanks again - confused but interested S > > > > From: <mark.grabiec@> > > Subject: Prozac > > To: Autism-Biomedical-Europe > > Date: Saturday, 1 October, 2011, 15:00 > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Â > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Hi > > > > > > > > Has anyone used prozac successfully (for autism that is). Guest guest
I don't think they are a mistake with neuroexcitotoxicity, on the contrary! (they can lower NMDA expression, lower neuroglial inflammation etc). It is just that dosages and reactions to different types of SSRI's vary massively from individual to individual. Often it helps to raise the dose! Rule of the thumb is that side effects such as hyperness and irritability are good signs - if those don't go away in about 2-3 weeks it often helps to raise the dose. Side effects such as more brain fog and decreased eye contact are a No-No means either try switching to another one ASAP or that SSRIs in general are not suitable for that child. hth Natasa > > > > > > From: <mark.grabiec@> > > > Subject: Prozac > > > To: Autism-Biomedical-Europe > > > Date: Saturday, 1 October, 2011, 15:00 > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Â > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Hi > > > > > > > > > > > > Has anyone used prozac successfully (for autism that is). > > > > > > > > > > > > She's happy with enzymes, happy with supps, not happy with adrenal support and last time refused to run bloods because they'd only show abnormal results and we'd " start anotehr series of appointments that didn't yield anything " , > > > > > > > > > > > > End of my tether - everyone is letting Tom down again.
Tom's been taking it for 5 weeks at very low dose (not yet up to dose of 10) and no improvement at all. He's had a terrible summer and is frankly not unlike a wild animal. Guest guest
oh I didn't mean autism only, propranolol has been used for decades for aggression in traumatic brain injury, dementia, schizo etc. > > > > > > Hi > > > > > > Has anyone used prozac successfully (for autism that is). Guest guest
Dear Steph, Sorry to hear you and Tom are having such an awful time. I've read Amityptilline(?sp) is helpful for migraine and bowel pain. Sorry I don't know if this is the same sort of drug as Prozac. Love Sharon.xx > > Hi > > Has anyone used prozac successfully (for autism that is). Tom's been taking it for 5 weeks at very low dose (not yet up to dose of 10) and no improvement at all.
