Guest guest
Hi Folks here! just popped in to say everything is fine in the UK more information on PD's and more people are getting in touch through First Steps to Freedom I hope everyone is keeping well, not letting those Nada's or fada's get to us, if that's possible? (LOL) Edith, I now receive two newsletters on PD's one from a hospital and one from a support group There was an interesting article in " Personality Disorder North Essex News " HOT NEWS * Good news...we think?...is that we have heard that work on DSM V- the next edition of the psychiatric manual for the USA- is considering reclassification of Personality Disorder as an Axis 1 diagnosis and renaming it as Impulsive Behaviour Disorder We remain concerned regarding how carefully and accurately Impulsive Behaviour Disorder will be defined in the manual. Is this true and what do you think? Will it help the family and friends, will we now receive more understanding, help and much needed advice from the professional world? Best Wishes
Guest guest
Impulsive Behavior Disorder seems to be a very good description of the disorder... (LOL) >> G'morning , Its good to hear from you. And look at you go! Who would've thought we'd be this involved with this BPD stuff a few years back. Hey, we've both come a lonnnnng way. <smiling and shaking my head> You wrote: << we have heard that work on DSM V- the next edition of the psychiatric manual for the USA- is considering reclassification of Personality Disorder as an Axis 1 diagnosis and renaming it as Impulsive Behaviour Disorder We remain concerned regarding how carefully and accurately Impulsive Behaviour Disorder will be defined in the manual. I would assume, yes, that a re-classification of BPD to IBD as an Axis I disorder would lend more credence to it in terms of recognition, treatment, & etc. The European definition, as I understand it, is not the same however as the DSM definition used in the States so now I also wonder what the implications would be there. Keep us updated/informed and I'll keep my eyes open for info here and pass along anything I hear. Take good care, Hugs, Edith
Guest guest
'Impulsive Behavior Disorder' does not sound as drastic as 'Borderline Personality Disorder', and very descriptive at the same time. Moving it to AxisI, seemingly, will help to stick less of the stigmas to diagnosis and presumably will help those who have to be close to BPs to receive more compassion, understanding, support, help and validation. On the other hands, hopefully, it will make easier to confront BPs with their behaviors and request them to get help. JMHO Bagira P.S. Is there going to be 'Manipulative Behavior Disorder'? How about 'Backstubbing Behavior Disorder'? <VBG>
