Guest guest
Hi PennIE, I also liked the name Abby for our daughter but we went with Hannah. She is 5 1/2 and is HFA. She is in full inclusion in a Kindergarten class with an aid. She is doing great. The reason that I am responding to your email is because I'm having a hard time separating HFA from Aspergers. My daughter is very verbal but not fully conversational (not like a typical 5 yr old). She reads at a 2nd grade level, not just from memory but she sounds out the words and writes them too. She loves to read and write. Makes lots of lists. Of course she has her " obsessions du jour " like we call it. They vary every few months. Was Abby diagnosed HFA/AS by her neuro or psychologist? My daughter was diagnosed at 3 years old and had no language of her own. Still living with some scripted speech. (either from TV or our conversations). I see this listed alot and I thought you were one or the other. Thanks for sharing. Barbara Hannah's Mom in Coral Springs, Florida Re: Welcome and Angie! Welcome to the group. Guest guest
> The reason that I am responding to > your email is because I'm having a hard time separating HFA from Aspergers. Asperger's is a subgroup of High Functioning Autsim. Kids who have Asperger's are generally not diagnosed until the age of 6 or later, and have no delay in actually speaking meaningfully, although they may have delays in conversation ability, or speech content. Kids with Asperger's also usually point on time, make somewhat better eye contact, (but not always), and are above grade level academicly (again, not always, or maybe only in certain areas such as reading). Anyway, Asperger's kids are HFA, but HFA is not always Asperger's. Amnesty
