Foods that contain wheat or grains such as breads contain high quantities of histidine

Maybe another reason why the GF diets helps so many?

Mx

My boy symptoms always fitted this. I'd had no idea about the interactions between two systems until we started ketitofen and i was sitting there thinking how he suddenly looked (in a very positive way) much less high-adrenaline driven, less impulsive, calmer, more constant energy, less physical fatigue etc. Then looked it up and of course ketitofen was known to influence HPA axis function and adrenaline levels…

This is interesting as first hand experience from an adult http://www.goldbaum.net/balance/Whats_Histamine.html with a nice easy to follow/understand list on page 2

Yes that may well be the case. Histidine also is constituent part of

carnosine, could be why some don't tolerate it. Also why it sometimes

helps seizures (by raising histamines? - antihistamines lower seizure

threshold...)

Hi Natasa,

Thanks for this, it is all very interesting.

About antihistamines lowering seizure threshold... would this be all

antihistamines do you know? Would you possibly have any further info

on this? In a recent thread about N's gastro prescribing anti-allergy

and antihistamines, I mentioned that I'd come across some info on

ketotifen with a " caution " in using with epilepsy (but it did not say

why).

So far N's done so well on the ceterizine in terms of reducing his

coughing attacks during meals, but we have had some episodes of seizure

increase every now and again.... but I had not thought about the

antihistamine. We are due to see GP soon to try out sodium

chromoglicate but not sure if this can be taken together with an

antihistamine.

I don't know. Tried to look it up but there don't seem to be a consensus

or hard data on others like benadryl. Possible I guess.

Thinking about the antihistamines and seizures.... I wonder could it be

the ones that have a sedating effect which may affect seizure threshold!
