Reggie,

What has Marlie been eating (including snacks) for the past several

weeks?

All discharges are the result of excess, and suddenly moving to a

colder climate can set off a discharge in a person who has stored

excess.

I'm wondering if a brown rice fast for several days might not prompt a

big discharge (causing all the excess moisture to come out) and then

after she has finished discharging, going back to regular everyday

macrobiotic eating.

Is Marlie a good grain chewer?

Chewing the grain at least fifty times each mouthful (until it is

liquid before swallowing)!

Have a lot of tissues nearby because all the excess moisture will come

out but then afterwards there should be no more discharge.

GO MARLIE!!!

Thank you, very much.

Marlie has a wet cough nearly 2 weeks, but we're in a colder

She has no fever, no labored breathing and feels fine. Today her

cough is better and it's starting to come out like dripping nose. My

brother is freaking that I'm not taking her to the dr and get an xray.

I wonder if anyone here thinks I'm crazy that yes, it is TOO long to

cough.

Any opinions?

I just made her brown rice, kale, broccoli and cauliflower with barley

miso she had a big bowl.

Thanks

how about some lotus root?

pumpkin and squahs are quite drying too.

often with dampness the source is the spleen and the lungs are the

storing vessicle so look to things inthe diet too that stress the

spleen/pancreas/digestive chi etc

the spleen season is at the change of seasons so that can oftne come up

then and as you move ot autumn all the excesses of summer come out to

be healed.

x-rays?!!!!

Ilanit and I had a discussion about young youngs chewing that much. I

don't think it's realistic to expect a 4 year to chew 50 times.

You know what, Reggie, you are probably right!

What was I thinking?

You can do the chewing for Marlie!

;-)

Or break the cooked brown rice down in a suribachi with a surikogi.

Another way might just make the rice a little softer by using more

water in cooking it!

The discharge may take a maximum of three days but could end in one or

two days depending on what and how much she has been eating before this

rice fast!

GET WELL, MARLIE!

Thank you, very much.

Hi Reggie

I am not sure if I got all the posts about Marlie so hope I am not repeating any

of the suggestions. I don't think you have anything major to worry about and her

cough is probably her body efficiently adapting to the change of

season/different location.

I would watch fruit, juices, cold drinks, raw salads and baked foods. If she

wants fruit, steamed apples are best. The standard pick me up foods are mild

miso soup, soft rice with umeboshi and steamed greens. If she won't eat greens,

try lots of broccoli. I would put a hot water bottle on her kidneys/lower back -

often coughs relate to the kidneys too. Black soybean tea is very good or give

her black soybeans with vegs if she won't take the drink. You could also try the

broth from cooking soba noodles - that is a standard drink for coughs. Lotus

root is very strong and I would only give her a very small amount coz of her

age. You could also try soaking her feet in warm water to bring the energy down.

Dishes like steamed whole carrots or large pieces of daikon would also be good

and watch the salt. A mild umeboshi shoyu kuzu drink would also help because it

strengthens the digestion which is the paired organ with lungs in Chinese

medicine. Often you can help one area by treating the corresponding one instead.

Children have very efficient bodies and adapt quickly - it sounds as if Marlie

has a great appetite and energy so am sure this will pass - sometimes things

happen when kids are about to make a big change such as growing or expanding

their understanding so you may see some differences when she is feeling better.

If I can think of anything else, will let you know.

Many blessings
