Guest guest
Amie, Stress can cause an asthma attack! The fact that you seem to only get an attack when participating in a competition and not just exercising in general would indicate that you are stressed due to the competitiveness. Also indigestion and acid reflux can trigger an attack, so if your stomach is jittery due to nerves of a competition this too could be happening. The best thing I ever did was go to an education class to learn more about asthma the triggers and why. Ask your PCP (doc) if there is such a class for you to educate yourself and meet others in your area with the same condition. Call your insurance company and ask if they have any such programs. Go to asthmastory.com and read the stories there, very enlightening. Good luck. Sue.

Guest guest
Asthma attack or just warming up? Hi Amie: Go back to your original statement. What did you say! Now ask why now and not back then? Is it Asthma or something creating the symptoms of Asthma. Thimk. Get a PCR blood test to see whats in your blood. You got something where your at versus where you were at effecting your health. It gave you these symptoms. Find out what it is. Check the house with a competent Mold inspector! Black mold is a killer on the lungs to some people. Find the cause and if you cannot get it out of your life where you're at, move. But find the cause! Then do whatever necessary to get your health back. Find a doctor who tests for these things using a PCR blood test. If ya don't your have a symptom doctor who will never cure you. Walt Walt I've been recently (late spring) diagnosed with asthma and it is still new to me. I didn't have these problems until I moved to the midwest (Indiana) from the west coast (California). My immediate question is, how can you tell (I am a runner/athlete) if you are just going through the process of warming up or are having an asthma attack? I was running the Chicago marathon, it should have been my ninth marathon, and had an attack so bad I had to be taken away by ambulance. That has never happened like that before. I didn't realize I was having an attack at first, I thought I just needed to warm up more, or maybe was tired from not sleeping well the night prior. I am allergic to mold spores (alternaria), dust, and cat (I don't have cats). I apparently have exercise induced allergy which is triggered by exercise and this mold. The doctor is saying this based on what has been happening. I feel like my life is falling apart because of this. Since July my peak flows have dropped and I am now on six medications daily which only seemed to moderately help. I have not run at all since the events at the marathon because I am scared out of my wits. I've only had attacks when I am doing a competition, so far. Thanks for any advice,Amie

Guest guest
Yes, I have been a runner and competed in running events and triathlonsfor years before I came here and had no problems at all. I recentlyquit my job though, as I know stress can worsen it and that was adefinite source of stress. I did read the post just a while ago about the pneumonia viruses andwas interested in seeing that. I wonder if I can find someone aroundhere to test me as they seem so backwards around here. It makes senseto me because in the span of just over a year, i have had pneumoniatwice, bronchitis three times, and now the asthma. I travel all overthe world so I could have been probably easily exposed to somethinglike that. Seeing that, I am surprised they did not test me for thisalready.... Secondarily, I have been trying to see what has changed since July. Ihave been taking steps to take the dust etc out of my house, it is anold house, but I have lived here since Aug 2002 so I don't think thedust could be a primary culprit. I don't have cats, nor have I beenaround cats so that hasn't changed. I have dogs but have testednegative to allergies and have had them for years. What I suspect, isthat the mold spores I've heard start to get worse in July and August. I am wanting for us to have a killing freeze, if my symptoms get betterafter that, I would seem to think it was that. My peak flow readingshave gotten a *bit* better over the past few weeks, and I think themolds are starting to die off with the cold weather. We had a warmspell last week and my asthma got worse again, so... I knew whenever I visited my mom in the midwest (where I grew up buthad not lived for years) I got SEVERE allergies but when I left themidwest I was ok again. Sometimes on the west coast, if I was bikingby a river or swimming near a lake, I'd get sniffly but it would goaway when I went home. I did notice, on a trip to Russia in early August, I seemed to getbetter and running went back to normal. Upon returning to the midwest,I progressively seemed to get worse again. I don't know if it is allin my head or what though, but I do remember that. When I got tested for allergies in 2001 when I stayed with my mom inthe midwest and had horrible allergies, mold showed up but not stronglylike dust did. Perhaps over the past year and a half I have steadilylived here, I have developed stronger allergies to it? I want to getretested for allergies again. If I have to move I'm getting the h@lloutta here. Nothing is worse than not being able to participate inthings you love to do and living in fear. I read the post about the asthma classes and saw the local hospitalgives them and you need a referral from your doctor to go. I'm surehe'd give me one and maybe I'd be able to learn more. THANKS SO MUCH for the posts. Sometimes I feel like no one understandsmy asthma and like I am making a big deal over nothing. Being takenaway by ambulance when you don't even know what is going on, breathinginto a machine and having 'nodes' attached to you, was the worstexperience of my entire life and I feel like I live in paralysis to doanything at all since that happened a couple weeks ago. --Amie

Guest guest
Re: Asthma attack or just warming up? Hi Amie: The tests are NOT well known outthere by the Doctors. Its actually difficult to find one. I'm working on a state by state referral list. Test labs etc. I'm also envolved in other areas in this so its going to be awhile before i share alot of this in what i've found. I'm seeing the attack starting to mount because these tests reveal alot of things going on that reveal areas that are not in public domain and can be secret by the Gov. Or so I'm beginning to see, and starting to realise what i'm up against. Be patient! Also use my name in replys. Otherwise i wont reply. I might unsubscribe from this list also. I see a area it does not even touched here effecting many more people. So I might start another list on a broader topic taking into the bigger whole picture to get the BIG picture open to discussion and under full discloser and review. Some people here just don't get it or see the whys of things going or what it really means or where it is going and why. I'm personally tired fighting a certain type mentality here. This is a very BIG topic of broad circumstance effecting many people in many areas of medicine, and health. It blew me away when the "enormity" of it hit me. look the word up. I've found my new topic for my next research as a investigator. Definately book material. Definitely needs full review and full discloser. My team is out there is being put together as I type! Things are in the works. Other people liking to do reseach and investigate stuff like this should contact me who want to help. I don't have cats, nor ha! ve I beenaround cats so that hasn't changed. Upon returning to the midwest,I progressivel! y seemed to get worse again. I don't know if it is allin my ! head or what though, but I do remember that. Being takenaway by ambulance when you don't even know what is going on, breathinginto a machine and having 'nodes' attached to you, was the worstexperience of my entire l! ife and I feel like I live in paralysis to doanything at all since that happened a couple weeks ago. --Amie > > > > >

Guest guest
Amie, That is the problem on this group!! The moderator is AWOL and has been since 1998! I personally have tried very hard to demand respectful communication, I have also tried deleting and ignoring email from both the very sick Walt and disgusting Senthil. I have just decided that enough is enough, I think it is very apparent to all the other members that these two have some major issues. Demanding they leave will be the only way! I am tired of the gross emails, and constant misinformation that Walt posts. It is doing a huge diservice to this group and the members who spend so much time trying to help and point people in the right direction. Reporting their behavior will eventually have an effect and they will not only be removed from this group but fron the yahoo system! Sue. > Who moderates this group? Guest guest
This is exactly the issue I have! Where are the people who were jumping on us before for demanding decent and respectful interaction? For the past week I have not responded and totally ignored the snide comments and constant jabs from Walt. Today I have had enough. Sue. Being takenaway by ambulance when you don't even know what is going on, breathinginto a machine and having 'nodes' attached to you, was the worstexperience of my entire l!ife and I feel like I live in paralysis to doanything at all since that happened a couple weeks ago. --Amie> > > > >
