Guest guest
, I've had the same problem. When I told my Rheumy, he suggested I take the mtx on Mon nights--that way I'd at least have the weekend to rest up on when the effectiveness was wearing off. Also, I take Enbrel on Tues & Fri in hopes of getting a bit more energy for the weekend. I have to admit, though, that I'm not able to get much done on weekends. I usually spend at least one full day in bed. I've never asked about taking the mtx more frequently. I'll ask when I see the Rheumy next week. Hope you have a good day! Guest guest
, I dont know of any studies, but I have read in individual cases of people with RA taking their mtx shots twice a week, on a schedule similar to the enbrel schedule of every 96 hours. It can be done, it's just basically up to your rheumy, and how well your labs are and such. RANGERS LEAD THE WAY

Guest guest
Hi , Very good questions! Are you taking the pill form?? (I thought you were..but??) I take the MTX via the pills once a week, and have wondered the same thing, but thought it was probably because there would be more possible side effects if taken more than once a week. Would it make any difference if this is injected or taken as a tablet..I wonder? Interesting. Tricia Methotrexate (MTX) Questions > Hi all - - > > I have been taking MTX for about 6 months. My subjective experience is that the drug " wears out " toward the end of the week. That is, I feel best for the first few days after I take my weekly dose, and then I feel not so good later in the dose week. I asked my Rheumie why MTX is taken in a weekly dose rather than more frequently, and he said that there really was not any good data to support this practice. He said that, way back when they first started using MTX to treat Psoriasis, there was some data that suggested that there were less negative side effects from the drug when it was taken weekly than when it was taken more frequently. He thinks that doctors just generalized this finding to their use of MTX with Rheumatoid Arthritis and then with all the other conditions that MTX is now prescribed for. > > Now my questions: > > 1. Does anyone else have the feeling that their MTX is wearing off before the dose week is over? > > 2. Does anyone know of any research studies that address the question of the relationship between MTX side effects and frequency of dosing? > > Thanks, Cannon johncann@... Guest guest
Dear - I'm sorry my answers won't help, but I don't experience any " wearing off " from the MTX. Also, have never known of any research. I do remember a very long time ago asking the doc I had who prescribed it about the once a week dose, and he said it was safer for the liver than doing it more frequently. Guest guest
Marty....maybe it's in the wheaties! Just kidding...I know from experience how *crabby* (mild word here) meds can make a person too! It's like a Dr. Jekyl & Mr. Hyde thingy. I was on much Codeine for a whole year, back in 1989 due to very severe right shoulder pain (shoulder has since been replaced) the Codeine along with the steroids, and whatever else I was taking then turned me into the wicked witch..with a B. Our youngest son was 14 at that time, and he and my dear hubby still remember the horror of that time! I think it took all the will power they had to not dump me off somewhere or smother me with a pillow when I finally did sleep! Yes, the spouses, and the rest of the family deserve a special thanks for all they go through...and still stay with us. The disease does one of two things with the family...either it brings them closer together..or (sadly) it breaks them apart. Your friend.. & 's too!
