On this day in1790, the shoelace was invented.1848, Paynard originated medicated adhesive plaster. 1849, ph Couch patented the steam-powered percussion rock drill. 1855, Abraham Gesner patented kerosene. (The by-product of the distillation process was gasoline, which the manufacturers threw out until the gasoline powered internal combustion engine was invented). 1860, M. L. Byrn patented " covered gimlet screw with a 'T' handle " (The corkscrew, in other words.) 1964, an earthquake struck Anchorage AK, at 9.2 on Richter scale.
