Ugh. Later I was told this was because he was gifted and could understand things at an earlier age than most kids. Which of course meant that he had more to worry about. I am trying to keep him away from the news now but he still manages to find the worst of things on the front page of AOL when he turns the computer on. When I search the internet, it's true, I have found quite a bit about gifted kids and ocd, but it could be just as you said, more likely for the parents to find the resources. I wouldn't have found this yahoo group myself if my parents hadn't bought me this computer! By the way, it's trash day today. NOT a good day for hoarders. Debbi I've heard that OCD occurs equally amongst kids of all intellectual levels - but I certainly have seen a lot information online from parents of kids that are gifted and have OCD. Perhaps parents of gifted kids are just more likely to be on the internet, and find the resources like this list more easily? Sandy

Guest guest
I am new to all this.. and found this topic interesting. Your son's K teacher saying it was 'immature' of him to have reacted that way to 9/11.. It seems the opposite to me.. he was feeling its impact in the way an adult would.. Our son's doctor told us that he said he enjoys working with kids with OCD for a number of reasons, but one is that they tend to be unusually nice kids. our son (age 7) is very sensitive to what's going on around him, to people's feelings, to doing a good job and what is right. (he also does very well academically.) Anyway, it seems connected to me .. that, for a kid, being 'ultra- tuned in' would be to his/her detriment as manifested in OCD, but could also be a positive characteristic, in other ways. > In a message dated 11/24/2004 7:30:27 AM Pacific Standard Time, > sdunavan@v... writes: > I know that one of the signs of a child's giftedness, is that they show > concern for problems around them at an earlier age than other children.
