Adapting Books

for Individuals w/ ASD’s

When: Saturday, January 31, 2004

Time: 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

We will provide a break that includes light refreshments.

Where: Chukker Creek Elementary Library

1830 Chukker Creek Road, Directly off Whiskey Road in South Aiken.

About Our Presenter:

Janet Spearman is a consultant with the Autism Division - Columbia Office, SCDDSN. She provides direct consultation and training for persons living with and supporting individuals with autism and conducts assessments for persons suspected of having autism.

The first half of this workshop will be an explanation of “How To†and “Why†we Adapt Books for individuals with ASD’s (Autism Spectrum Disorders). The second part will be a “Make & Take†where participants can actually adapt a book(s) especially for their child/student. Because you’ll want to individualize the book you adapt, we are asking each participant to bring at least one book they would like to adapt. All other materials will be provided for you!

Staff Development Points: Aiken County School District teachers are eligible to receive staff development points for attending this workshop. All others must check with their immediate supervisors.

Stipends are Available:

For those families unable to attend because childcare is too expensive, financial assistance is available. This is based on need and a first-come, first-serve basis. The average stipend is $30.00 per family, per workshop.

Call and ask for Beth to apply. An application & I-9 tax form must be completed.

This workshop is FREE! But, you must register and receive a confirmation number to attend.

Seating is limited. Call now & ask for Denice Stout or e-mail DStout6@...

Special Note: It is appreciated that anybody who registers be sure they can attend. If you do have to cancel, notify Denice Stout immediately, so she can fill the space with the individuals on the waiting list.
