Guest guest
Sorry blood type diets as sensible as they may sound on the surface are absolute crap. Too many friends of mine are type o and according to the blood type diet they should NOT be vegetarian and need to eat meat. I couldn't disagree more. In fact their health has improved by being vegetarian. My most humble opinion " ...become the change you envision." Lemoine From: VeganMacrobiotics [mailto:VeganMacrobiotics ] On Behalf Of Darlene MacAuleySent: May 15, 2006 10:56 AMTo: VeganMacrobiotics Subject: Expression of gratitude and a question I had a very nice conversation with my mom yesterday and I was able to intelligently give her more information about macrobiotics, how I see it benefitting my health, and I was successful at putting her mind at ease that I wasn't on some crazy diet. I want to thank everyone here for your support and willingness to share feelings and information; I think it helped me greatly in being able to put MB in a positive light. I'm trying to help my husband find a better way to eat than an Atkins diet, and my naturopath suggested the blood type diets. My blood type is A so I am supposed to do well on an MB diet. DH is type O so he should do well with meat. I'm curious to know if anyone has used this blood type diet philosopy. Much of the food that are good for Type As are accepted standard foods in MB, but there are a couple of items like shiitake mushrooms and cabbage that are not recommended for Type As. Guest guest
the only thing I really like about the blood type diet is that it makes people think about what they are eating but within reason - i think it goes a bit far on many points and the reasoning is questionable. MB sees each person as unique so perhaps someone with type O or with a kapha body type in ayurveda may do better with less grains and more veggies or be more careful with gluten grains etc. But is not a prescription to dine at a steak house 3 x a day! Everything should be adapted to the individual and mb ideas are very flexible - mb should suit the person not the other way round you can also tell your mom that it seems to have been the mb movement that led the whole healthy food revolution and before it came to america health foods shops, organic grains etc were a rarity! Guest guest
Ilanit - Thank you so much for the reference to the article. I of course had completely forgotten about how prescribing to a set " diet " has its limitations. My enthusiasm for trying to substitute ER4YT for Atkins was perhaps misguided. ER4YT for Os just seems " better " than the experience dh had with Atkins in the past. I really like what the author had to say. Guest guest
there are some good points to the diet just to be aware that you can make a meat free approach work - you dont NEED the animal food component I went to an amazing lecture with Donna Gates tonight! Very inspiring and got the new 8th edition of her book! I went with the first edition tucked under my arm - from when she started and I first heart of her back in 1994 (she has been researching all this for 15 years) I did the program then and she has added soooo much knowlegde about sooo many things and is having amazing success reversing things like autism, chronic digestive issues (this was great for me as I just came from an hour and a half appointment with my holistic doc to talk over all the digestive tests I had and where to go with it all) donna was sooo inspiring she has an extensive website and book. she is 59 and could easily pass for 20 years younger. when I read her book back then I actually got in touch with her (no email for me back then - phone!) and had a consult with her and she was telling me about her toddler who had been brought up on arame and quinoa etc. he was there today - a 15 year old 6ft tall boy! http://www.bodyecologydiet.com/ Darlene MacAuley wrote: Ilanit - Thank you so much for the reference to the article. Guest guest
Well, apparently you can change your blood type so that being said it would seem that the diets aren't really appropriate. I think it's another gimmic to some extent. I'm going to speak from both sides of my mouth tho because as we learn in mb certain foods produce certain effects in our body, etc. So it could be that certain foods work better for some while not well for others. But, if we were to all (good fantasy) eat a pure mb diet and then alter with certain foods I think that we would usually have the same effect. I may be wrong and that's ok too. Glad to hear you've been able to convince your mom you're not on some crazy diet. I've not accomplished such feats. My mother tells me I'm cruel and depriving my daughter when I don't allow her to " one time " have this watermelon and cantaloupe and chocolate and and and. Yea, whatever mom. After explaining the dairy thing to her I was able to get her to stop consuming dairy so I'm thrilled about that. She will still eat " cheese " that has casein in it but certainly better than full throttle cows milk. I have type O+ if this helps you at all and I'm vegetarian for 20 years, vegan since 96 (I'd cheat here and there till about 98) and still working on mb.......... So glad that this group has been able to help you.....
