Hi all, I hope you are doing well. The boys are trying to get over a nasty viral infection with an awful cough. The first few days it was pretty bad lasting on and off through the night. Those nights I did not make wear his brace. 's cough seems to be sticking around much longer than his brother's. Which BTW their doctor said the cough could last for several weeks. OK my question is coming....I promise. So last night I put his brace on because the cough seemed better. He woke up coughing, crying and calling for me. When I went to check on him he said the brace was hurting him. I immediately took it off since he was coughing.Should I leave it off until the

cough seems better? He had it off for 3 nights already. I hate to keep it off longer, but I want him to be able to have a productive cough. And of course for him to get well.Any thoughts? As a mom, I would keep the brace off, I know if it was ME, I wouldn't want my child in pain and uncomfortable on top of having a nasty cough and virus. I would keep it off tonight and then maybe tomorrow call/email Dr R/ and see what they say. I am sure they will say to not go as long as you HAVE to without the brace. Also, call your Ped tomorrow and see if you can give some Mucinex. It helps loosen up the mucus and every cough is productive. I hope I have helped you. Good luck and try not to worry, I am sure a couple of days brace free isn't going to make much of a difference. Let us know what you decide and what your Dr says.

Hope he is feeling better VERY VERY soon.

Love,

Thanks . That is exactly what my husband wants to do........put it on and IF he wakes up coughing and complaining THEN take it off. The cough seems better during the day and gets worse at night. And if I remember correctly that is how it always was when they were very young and sick. Anyway thanks for your help! Thanks Melinda. So glad you got that cast off of her! If was coughing like he is now and in a cast, it would have to come off. There have been a few times I have run to his room this week during the night. I could hear him coughing and gagging. Once I got there he was sleeping......he never even woke up, but it sounded so bad!The coughing today has been better unless he got upset or all worked up playing with his brother.Just put him to bed with it on. We'll see how tonight goes. He is old enough to understand he needs it, but I told him to call me if it is hurting while he coughs.Hope Marly is doing better. I'm not sure Tasha.... I would call his pediatrician and maybe his casting doc for clarification. I'm so sorry that they are sick and I hope they feel better soon..... I'm looking forward to spring! I immediately took it off since he was coughing.Should I leave it off until the cough seems better? He had it off for 3 nights already. I hate to

keep it off longer, but I want him to be able to have a productive cough. And of course for him to get well.Any thoughts?
