Guest guest
Hi everyone, I'm writing from Panama city, Panama, my little son have been diagnosticated with positional plagiocephaly, in our country we don't have the posibility of get the band treatment only the surgery in the craniosynostosis patients and we are thinking in travel to the US to get the treatment, possibly in Miami or New York where the air tikets have a low cost from here, our insurance company doesn't pay for that kind of treatment out of the country and We will have to pay for it, can somebody gave me an idea about the cost of this treatment ? I have an information from Cranialtech and they told that it will be aprox USD 3000.00 , can someboy tell me if that is correct or if at the final it will be more , Or if exist other options to get the treatment with a lower cost, but with the same results, I will have to pay aproximatelly USD 10000.00 for the total treatment as the info that I have. thanks for your attention and your time. Guest guest
Hi Demo and welcome. I'm sorry to hear that there are no treatment options available to you in Panama other then surgery. :-( Cranial Technologies (maker of the DOCband) is just one option. Maybe someone in the New York and/or Miami area can recommend a STARband orthotist. Those bands cost less then the DOCband and if you find a skilled and experienced ortho they work just as well. You can also check their website: www.orthomerica.com, however, if you could get a recommendation through this group that would be even better because then you would know what kind of ortho you would be dealing with. You will need a prescription for the band and that will have to be given to you by a pediatrician or some sort of specialist. You may need to factor in a visit to a specialist if you can't get an RX for the band in Panama. How old is ? Perhaps aggressive repositioning could be beneficial. Check out www.plagiocephaly.org/support for some more great information about plagio and about repositioning. Please keep us posted. Guest guest
- How old is your son? If he is older, he may only need adjustments every 2 weeks or so. For the first week, you may want to stay a few days because you may need an extra adjustment or too. Have you tried repositioning him off the flat spot. Some parents are able to get great results by doing this! Guest guest
Hi, If you chose the Starband, the cost is $1500.00. That also includes every aspect of the treatment. Jenna will have had her Starband 3 weeks this Monday. We have already seen good results! Angie (Jenna 9 mths old Starbanded) Re: How much it will cost ? Hi Demo, If you choose to go with Cranial Technologies, yes, the cost is $3000.00. That includes every aspect of the treatment from beginning to end. There are other bands available, but I'm not sure of the costs. I'm hoping someone else on the list will be able to tell you what those are. Anyone? )I hope you are able to get here to the states to find treatment for . It is well worth the cost if you can afford it. Good luck!Kerri (Chicago) For more plagio info
Guest guest
Hi Dimo & welcome to our group: I'm so sorry to hear Panama does not have any corrective bands or helmets to treat your baby's plagiocephaly It's such a shame. Yes, DOCband do cost $3000 USD on average. I believe they have a couple Cranial Tech clinics that charge more though, so you should double check with the clinic you would in fact go to if you decide to take that route. There is also a band called the STARband made by Orthomerica. I think their avg cost is $1,500 USD.. The STARband is available at numerous different clinics/hospitals across the USA. You can visit their webpage at www.orthomerica.com Be sure though if you do go with a STARband, that the orthotist who will be treating has experience in treating plagio babies with the band. The key to success with these products is a qualified orthotist. Thoroughly interview & ask for references. How old is ? Welcome again & best of luck with finding treatment. Please keep us posted. Guest guest
Hi Demo, Welcome to the group. I am so sorry that you aren't able to get band/helmet treatment in Panama. Guest guest
Hi, I was looking information at the starband site, but how you made to get it, did your pedriatrician have any experience with it or you just made an order to the starnabd people and the pediatrician make the folow up with your baby ?? If I can get the starband maybe we can recive the follow up with our doctors in Panama just an idea, to made the treatment at our country. Or maybe we can just go once a moth to the US for the follow up but going weekly or every two weeks it will be hard for the family, but if I have to do it I will but I will look first for other oprtions. I know that I will have to go to made the helmet at my baby's head measures. Thanks for the reccomendation about the repositioning I will look on the links that you send and I will try to know how to do it and try to start doing it ASAP here with a therapist or if we can doit by ourselves will be bettter. Thanks to everyone for your attention and replys. Demo. father of (3 months, positional plagiocephaly) Panama city, Panama. > Hi, > > If you chose the Starband, the cost is $1500.00. Guest guest
Hi Demo, Sadly most pediatricians don't know enough about plagio. I've never heard of a ped doing adjustments on a band or helmet. It has to be adjusted by an orthotist. The person HAS to have experience! That is so important. Also for a baby your age, you will have to have adjustments made weekly. Your baby shouldn't have be in a band for months and months. Ususally when a baby is that young, they aren't banded for very long. I was thinking, maybe you should contact Mc house. They may be able to help you by giving you a place to stay while you are in the US, free of charge. Would it be possible for your wife to stay in the US, while your baby is being treated? I'm sure that would lessen your cost considerably. Here is the link to Mc house: http://www.rmhc.com/home/index.html I really hope they are able to help you. I wish you and your family the best. Please keep us posted on your baby. > > Hi, > > > > If you chose the Starband, the cost is $1500.00. That also > includes every aspect of the treatment. Guest guest
Hi Demo: Only a certified orthotist is allowed to treat plagio babies while in the STARband or any other type of helmet. Pediatricians are not qualified or trained to treat plagio babies while in their bands. Our pediatricians here in the states write us a prescription for the band, then we go to the orthotist's hospital or clinic where our babies are then treated. Most bands require weekly chk ups and / or adjustments made to the band at least bi-weekly, often weekly.
