Guest guest
HI MICHELLE, TRACI HERE. SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT BLAINE BEING IN A FULL FLARE, IT IS VERY HARD TO DO ANYTHING IN A FULL FLARE. I LIVE PRETTY MUCH ALONE- I HAVE A TODDLER AND A HUSBAND THAT IS NOT SUPPORTIVE AT ALL. I CAN TELL YOU THAT WHAT GETS ME THROUGH EACH DAY IS THE SIMPLE DESIRE TO BE ABLE TO DO THINGS AND THE BOREDOM AND ISOLATION DRIVES ME. I HAVE TO KEEP MYSELF BUSY DOING THE THINGS I CAN DO TO KEEP FROM SITTING AROUND AND GETTING MORE DEPRESSED, AND TO KEEP MY MIND OFF THE PAIN. THERE ARE DAYS LIKE TODAY WHERE I JUST DON'T FEEL UP TO DOING ANYTHING, SO I HAVE SAT AT THIS COMPUTER MOST OF THE DAY. I HOPE BLAINE IS FINDING HIS OWN WAY TO COPE WITH IT ALL- THIS DISEASE JUST DRAINS YOUR WHOLE BODY, MIND, AND SPIRIT. SEND HIM OUR WELL WISHES. TILL NEXT TIME.......... TRACI > Hi everyone, > It's me again, here to pick your brains. > > I have 2 questions for you... > 1) How do people that live alone with limited family, manage their Sills? I can't imagine cooking, cleaning, taking care of yourself while suffering in pain. > > 2) How do you deal with the isolation Stills brings? Besides depression, I know that Stills makes you isolated because you can't do all the things you normally can do- shop, walk, or just simply go out. > > > Thanks so much > - friend to Blaine (who has had Stills for a long time but was diagnosed over a year ago. Guest guest
Hi Jane,Keira wore a brace over the summer. She loves her 'dolphin brace' and keeps it in her room. (She keeps asking to get 'another dolphin cast' instead of the plaster cast.)Our local recycling takes all plastics, so I will eventually toss it there. If you don't have a good plastics recycling program, I would call the hospital and ask them if they take them to recycle. Otherwise, you might just have to send it to the trash.Liz, Mom to Keira - 3.5 yrs in 5th cast in SLCSubject: Just curious...To: infantile_scoliosis Date: Saturday, December 12, 2009, 8:29 PM I know this is the casting site, but for those that have had some bracing...What the heck do you do with the old braces???Grace has had 4 before surgery/casting, and they were in the trunk of my car for a LONG time, lol. Then, they have lived in our living room since turkey day. Now I'm sick of seeing them. I have taken pics of them from front and back so I have record of what she's had (scrapbooking too of course, lol) but now I have no clue what to do. They are specifically molded to her so another child can't use them. i don't think all of the material is recyclable, so???Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
