Guest guest
I too had very high antibodies with both Anti-TPO and Anti- thyroglobulin. I probably keep the roller coaster up for about 10 years before I was dx. When I had energy and lost weight......that was a good thing. When I was tired and gained......that was a bad thing. Eventually, the Hashi settled into blatant hypothyroidism as the gland died. I suspect that I never stayed hyper very long, otherwise I would have been dx sooner. Maybe not though. Not many docs run those AB tests as we all know, since they BELEAVE that there is nothing you can do to stop the progression of the gland destruction. Sharon > I asked this because I find it strange that I have such high amts of BOTH these antibodies. I keep reading that Hashi's generally has the antithyroidperoxidase ones, but I keep seeing the antithyroglobulin ones pop up vaguely related to Grave's. I did have two bouts of something with my eyes going on back right before all the fun began, 4 yrs ago, right before I got so ill with it. When I was what I would call hyper, way back before that, I was into high weight loss without even trying for several yrs, not several months, plus all the " hyper " behavior to go along with, and the anxiety attacks. But it was right before I started feeling so sluggish and ill, then gaining weight, when the eyes thing started. They never looked like someone with the classic eye signs of Grave's though. They looked sort of like a bad case of conjunctivitis. The eyes may not have been related, but it still sticks in my mind somewhere. I thought that Hashi's hyper swings were probably not going to last for yrs, maybe for months. For someone to be able to eat anything they wanted all the time, for up to 7 yrs just sounds like some of the descriptions I've heard of people with undiagnosed Grave's. I've really got to wonder. > > > > Re: Antithyroglobulin Antibodies Ever with Graves? > > > It is not too unusual for folks to have both kinds of antibodies. I would suspect that a tissue biopsy would be the only way to tell the difference. And you can actually have a varient of thyroid eye disease with Hashi. > > There is actually some thought to the effect that Graves and Hashi are two manifestations of the same disease. Going further in that direction, some docs think that all auto-immune disease is one disease, and that all disease is basically auto-immune. > > It is this basic mindset that leads to the few protocols that actually work for Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. When all of the imbalances are corrected, the auto-immunity is alleviated, to the extent that it is possible, given the amount of permanent tissue damage that may have already occurred.
