Guest guest
, I would only go down one size of diapers if at all. My sons diaper size didnt change but hes worn the same size since he was 9 mos old (18 mos now) Luckly we havent had a problem with poop up the back but i know others have and they have great advice and will chime in. One thing we do use are the plastic training type washable pants that fit over his diaper. We use these at night to protect against pee leaks. I imagine if you find she leaks alot, pee or poop you could use these full time. They really help us. I know Heidi recommends the Kushies brand that you can buy at walmart.com. They are washable and come in a two pack. Hope that helps! I read the diapering suggestions on the infantile scoliosis website. Do you buy 1 size smaller or 2 sizes smaller? I wish they made "bikini cut" diapers! Also, has anyone ever dealt with a poop up the back? I know this will happen eventually, and I want to be prepared. Thanks,, mom of Audrey, 2Los AngelesFirst Cast at SLC Shriners
Guest guest
Hi , You've gotten some great tips already, but I've got one more to add... We always folded the top edge (that thin part) down as we tucked the diaper up under the cast. That way, the diaper does not sag so much between their legs, and you reduce your chances of leakage because the leg openings are less baggy. (This gives you that " bikini cut " you are after...!) Let me try to explain how we did this. We'd lay him down over the diaper as though he had no cast on--this would put the cast inside the diaper, in other words. But don't fold the diaper over the top yet. Raise the child's bottom up with one arm under their knees, then slide your free hand under the diaper. Use that hand to shove the diaper between their back and the cast: place fingertips a few inches below the top of the diaper and just push the diaper up so that your fingers are making the diaper fold around them as they slide under the cast. Then you can wiggle your hand from side to side to get the diaper tucked under the cast and smoothed out as much as possible. Still, the top of the diaper remains folded--the smoothing is to eliminate as much bunching as possible side-to-side. Next, we folded the top over and fastened the diaper tabs. At this point, the front of the cast is inside the diaper, but the back is outside. Place fingers on top of the diaper a few inches below the edge of the diaper, and press your fingers under the cast, folding the diaper around them as you do. You should be able to smooth the diaper out under the front more easily than under the back. (Again, let the top of the diaper remain folded.) Some families have had good luck rolling the child front to back to get more finger room under the cast. We never could get the sides to go under the cast since Todd's casts were so snug on his hips. We used Cruisers, one size smaller, and put generic feminine incontinence pads inside at night to catch the extra wetness. Once you're actually diapering the baby, it's not as daunting as it seems beforehand! The one thing you need to make certain about is that any leaks get completely dry. That's a pain, but it can be done. ) Hope that helps! Good luck! , Mommy to Todd Hi , I know some moms do recommend one size smaller on diapers, but we found that using the right sized diapers in Pamper's Cruisers worked best. We use a Poise pad in her diaper at night and have used diaper doublers for long naps to prevent leaks. I like the medium Poise pads for diapers sized 3 and under and the large ones for sizes 4 and up. Some moms use rubber pants over diapers or a pull-up over a regular diaper. Experiment a bit and you'll find what's right for you. If you do end up with a mess, remove the moleskin and stretch the shirt out. Then use some baby soap, like 's or Cetaphil to clean it and rinse with water. squeeze out as much of the water as you can and then use a hair dryer to dry the shirt as much as possible before you re-petal the cast. I always recommend using a product that your child already uses for cleansing or do a spot check first if you are trying something new. My daughter is extremely sensitive and I have to be careful with what goes near her skin. Fingers crossed that you don't experience a blow-out! - Noelle's mommy, 3 years oldRochester NYCasted 8 times for 1 1/2 years and in first brace!reflux, mild plagiocephaly, mild torticollos, hypotonia, ligament laxity, suspected Ehler's Danlos III Subject: Diapering Suggestions To: infantile_scoliosis Date: Saturday, February 27, 2010, 11:42 PM Hi Everyone -I'm new so I keep thinking of more questions.
