Guest guest
Hi all-- I have Diflucan ?'s also. We just switched from Nizoral to Diflucan after about 7 mos. on the Nizoral. I never saw any die-off with Nizoral or really any obvious improvements, although his stools finally did improve after being on it about 4 mos-- but that could've been due to diet or antivirals also or everything together. We have been on Diflucan for 3 days now, and I am waiting patiently for any die-off. Can someone refresh my memory as to what die-off with antifungals looks like and how long it generally takes to kick in? I wonder if he even has a yeast problem sometimes- is that possible? Also, re: the pink dye. was a little " off " (hyper/ more sensory stuff) while taking a pink antibiotic a few weeks back, so I wondered if the color was bothering him or if it was something else. It's so hard to tell with all these meds together, as well as foods. He was also on a decongestant and fairly new SSRI at the time, so who knows! If your child has a problem with the dye, is it apparent quickly, or does it take a while to develop? And how do you find a compounding pharmacy? Do you just have Dr. G's office call in the prescription to them like normal? Will they ever take insurance like a " regular " pharmacy? We have Blue Cross PPO, I wonder if they contract with any compounding pharmacies. I'd really rather not have the pink dye at all just so I don't have to rule it out as a potential problem every time something goes awry. I avoid it in foods, so why give it to him in meds every day? *totally switching topics now** I just have to marvel( and brag!), is having a play date with my friend's daughter (both 3)over at our house right now, and he is playing like a 'normal' kid. They're both laughing and giggling and running around and 's even sharing his toys. They're sitting in a little pop-up playhouse sharing beef jerky and being silly. He hasn't stressed out or avoided her once in the last 3 hrs. He's even talking to her. It helps that they have the same quiet temperament, she's great therapy for ! These 1:1 playdates work out so great, too many loud kids at once, like at preschool, make it much harder for him to interact socially. It makes me wonder how much of what holds him back with other kids is and how much is his very shy, laid-back personality. I was also very shy as a kid (still am in many ways) and could never play with kids I didn't know or very loud, fast kids. Just thinking out loud.... May all of you have a wonderful Christmas with your families, and a New Year that is filled with progress for all of our kids. Its such a blessing for me that can " get " Christmas now and talk about Santa bringing him toys, and ENJOY it all instead of being stressed by the whole experience. The difference between Christmas this year and last year brings tears to my eyes. We all missed out on so much for so long. Blessings to everyone. Happy Holidays! Becky Happy Holidays!!!! It probably varies with each individual child but those I know who have trouble with dyes tend to get pretty hyper fairly quickly, even to small amounts of dye. > And how do you find a compounding pharmacy? Dr. G's office can fax a prescription to a compounding pharmacy or Express Scripts like they do to any pharmacy. Most compounders aren't on insurance plans though so you'll have to file for reimbursement. Gaylen
Guest guest
and Gaylen, Thanks so much for your replies. I think I'll call tomorrow about compounding. Does anyone have the number to Friendly Hills pharmacy handy? Our BC of CA PPO actually covered the Diflucan with no problems, I was shocked. So far this insurance has been amazing, it's really saved us financially. However, I'd be willing to pay out of pocket for a dye-free Diflucan if its under about $100. I'd just rather eliminate the pink dye as a possible problem. Today has had diarrhea, 1 normal stool and 3 loose stools and a lot of gas. His last stool was almost white in color and floated. Does this sound like part of die-off? I suppose it could be an intestinal illness or food reaction, but he hasn't gotten a hold of any suspect foods (that I know of!) and he seems to feel fine otherwise. He has been more flappy and hyper today, though. I also caught him opening and closing a cupboard door repeatedly, which I haven't seen in a long while. Does fungal die-off make our kiddos feel lousy, like the viral die off did for us, or just make them act a bit wierd? Or does it just depend on the kid? is very verbal and happy/cooperative today, just doing a lot more sensory-seeking stuff and now the lousy poop.He also seems to be sleeping restlessly. He's running in circles as I type, LOL Thanks again, Becky Re: Etc - Die off and pink dye, social skills, Xmas > In a message dated 12/15/03 7:29:28 PM Central Standard Time, > beckeric@... writes: > > > > If your child has a problem with the dye, is it apparent quickly, or does > > it take a while to develop? > > It probably varies with each individual child but those I know who have > trouble with dyes tend to get pretty hyper fairly quickly, even to small amounts of > dye. > > > > And how do you find a compounding pharmacy? It took about three weeks for to normalize -- seemed like forever. The " almost white " , floating stool is something I would call the office about. I wouldn't be surprised if it's just a variation of die-off, but light-colored stools *can* mean a problem with the liver. It couldn't hurt to just check. Hope that helps -- keep us posted, Donna
Guest guest
Becky, It made my couch potato son run giggling and jumping around... he was giddy for a couple of days. I remember his physical therapist laughing and saying, " I've never seen him like this before! " This was on Nizoral. When the silliness cleared he had marvelous improvements. Guest guest
Donna, My son has been having the same looking stool for the last couple of weeks, then it stops and comes back (very gassy too). Dr. G's office told us to do the liquid diet for 48hrs and then the BRAT Limited diet for another 48 hours. (We weren't very strict with the diet because of Christmas), but his poop has improved...it's now more formed and a little darker in color. Call the Dr. G's office and let them know. Good luck, Argie Re: Etc - Die off and pink dye, social skills, Xmas Today has had diarrhea, 1 normal stool and 3 loose stools and a lot of gas. His last stool was almost white in color and floated.
