Guest guest
About sex and HCV This is only one study, but it most accurately fits my experience, as we were monogamous (as far as I know)for twenty years, and we had more risky forms of sex than described here. We never used any protection until I started treatment. Lack of Evidence of Sexual Transmission of Hepatitis C Among Monogamous Couples: Results of a Ten-Year Prospective Follow-Up Study C. Vandelli1 ,F. Renzo1 ,L. Romano2 S. Tisminetzky3 ,M. De Palma4 , T. Stroffolini5 ,E. Ventura1, A. Zanetti2 1Department of Internal Medicine, Policiinico of Modena, Modena, Italy; 2 of Virology, University of Milano, Milano, Italy; 3 Trieste, Italy; 4 Bank, Policlinico of Modena, Modena, Italy; 5 Department, S. Giacomo Hospital, Roma, Italy Introduction We have evaluated the risk of sexual transmission of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection among 895 monogamous heterosexual partners of HCV chronically infected individuals in a long-term prospective study. Methods / Results The follow up period was 8060 person-years; 776 (86.7%) spouses were followed up for ten years. corresponding to 7760 person-years of observation and 119(13.3%) spouses (69 whose infected partners cleared the virus following treatment and 50 who ended their relationship or were lost at follow- up) contributed for additional 300 person-years. During the follow-up three HCV infections were observed corresponding to an incidence rate of 0.37 per 1,000 person-years. However, in one case the infecting HCV genotype in a spouse was different from that of the partner ((2a, 1b), likely excluding a sexual route of transmission. Despite the remaining two couples had concordant genotypes, sequence analysis of the NS5b region of the HCV genome, coupled with a phylogenetic analysis showed that the corresponding partners carried different viral isolates, again excluding the possibility of intraspousal transmission of HCV. Conclusion These findings indicate an extremely low or even null risk of HCV transmission within heterosexual monogamous couples www.hcvadvocate.com nicole stevens wrote: Thank you. Im glad you resonded. I was really worried about my sex life with him. We have an active sex life also and I wasnt sure if I needed to start wearing protection because of this. This is all so new to me that I find myself second guessing everything I do around him. I dont want to live that way and I want us to be "normal" again. If at all possible. I found on one website that it said that he should only have one cup of coffee a day? Is this true? Right now he drinks about two a day but also loves those monster energy drinks, which, if anybody has ever had one, they are about 20 cups of coffee in one take. Im trying to be supportive and watch out for him but at the same time not be his mother!! Any advice? Yahoo! Mail Use Photomail to share photos without annoying attachments. Guest guest
Hi ! First Ill address the coffee,, 2 cups per day is perfectly reasonable,, Im not so sure about the high voltage energy drinks.. sometimes those things can have a damaging effect on his Adrenals. He may be drinking those because he is suffering the severe fatigue we all seem to have with this disease.. but in the long run,, they are more damaging than helpful... but the 2 cups of coffee is liver protective from what I have read against HCC which is what we all fear the most... As far as your sex life,, go back to being comfortable with it and just relax hon.. I was married to my childrens father for 15 years AFTER I got infected as well as my last husband and neither one of them are infected,, my current husband is not infected,, OK ,, yes you guys, I have been married 4 times, lol,, I dont count the first one as we were together less than a year,, he got all involved in drugs while we were serving in Greece,, I didnt want to go to jail in a foreign country so I left early and he was very very abusive,,, I just could NOT seem to pick good ones until my current husband and I believe that God sent him to me.. BUT the point Im making here is that transmission is very very low sexually,, almost nil,, I know a LOT of ppl with this disease but I dont know one person who got it sexually.. you do have to use common sense,, like not having real rough sex where HE might bleed into you.. but other than that,, you can have a full happy sex life... Liz is on vacation but as soon as she gets back, Im sure she will post some articles to back up what and I have said about this,, but the main thing is NOT to let this wreck your relationship because there is NO NEED for it to do that! Enjoy that man!! hugs jaxnicole stevens wrote: Thank you. Im glad you resonded. I was really worried about my sex life with him. Guest guest
Thanks Jackie! I do adore this man. He is everything to me and I hate that this has happened to him. The saddest thing about all of this is we think he got it in jail. (served time for assault, defending his sister against the man who raped her) So all of this is a horrible situation for him. He is a wonderful man who would do anything for anybody and its not fair that this has happened to him. I wish I could take it all away for him. Okay, enough of my sop story, something you said struck me. Is being tired something that goes along with this? Before we knew about this I would get so mad at him for ALWAYS wanting to sleep, Ive laid off of it now because Im not sure about anything anymore. If this is part of the disease, is there anything you can do to give yourself more energy?Jackie on wrote: Hi ! Guest guest
, it seems like this question is directed at Jackie, but I can't help puttin' in my two cents. My docter says "don't get too tired." She doesn't want me working full-time. I know this may not be possible for your husband. Further, I believe her when she tells me that the liver (and all the body) heals while you sleep. I believe we should listen to what our bodies tell us. This is about a short and sucsinct as any post I've ever made. \----smiling proudly----/ Eat well, sleep well, be well!nicole stevens wrote: Thanks Jackie! I do adore this man. Guest guest
, it seems like this question is directed at Jackie, but I can't help puttin' in my two cents. He is a wonderful man who would do anything for anybody and its not fair that this has happened to him. I wish I could take it all away for him. Okay, enough of my sop story, something you said struck me. Is being tired something that goes along with this? As far as something the Doctors can do to help it directly - I really don't know of anything right off hand. My went away once I completed treatment and was in remission. However, that is not to say that there is something out there now that they could give to help with it. Your in a good place and a great group for advice and knowledgeable information. Good luck to you and yours And May God continue to bless you both Love, hugs and Prayers Marie -- Re: new to this Chris Thanks Jackie! Guest guest
Hey ! Just a thought, and I don't mean to step on any toes, but I am a strong believer in nature and herbal/natural remedies. Does your family take honey? You might try taking a tsp of honey in warm (not hot) water everyday. You can over time increase this. I'm now taking about half honey half water in a full coffee cup. The honey should be non-processed, and straight from the bee keeper if possible. If you adore your husband, he knows it! Becasue he knows you love him, he has to believe you only do what's good for him. He may place more value in what you tell him than what a doctor says. This mindset gives yougreat power to affect his health and well being. IF you tell him that honey will cure his fatigue, it just may. REad about the 30% effectiveness of placebos. The mind is a very powerful tool in healing. His rational mind will think, "this makes sense, at least a little" since honey is full of sugars. Honey IS a cure all, and is widely forgotten because home remedies have been pushed aside by the pharmacology of modern science. If something's not broken, don't fix it. Don't believe me! Talk to your Grandma or some older people. I first got turned on to honey by a Russian immegrant. Love and hugs, Mr. Natural aka Eat well, sleep well, be well.nicole stevens wrote: Thank you for your encouraging words. I told him about the provigil last night. Any advice?Hunter wrote: Welcome! I hope you can find the answers to ease your concern. I'm and I'm pretty new here too, but I've known I have HCV for about 9 years now. There are many people here that can answer specific questions for you very very well. I can only offer my opinions, as I am not an expert. From personal experience I can tell you that I had HCV when I married, and after twenty years of marriage and not even knowing I had a problem, my ex-wife and my daughter tested negative for even the antibody. This means that they not only did not have HCV, but had never been exposed to it. Without getting too graphic, I'll just say that my wife and I had an active sex life. I was very close to my daughter as well. Just don't cut yourself with something he has just cut himself with. Don't share his razor. For information overload, check the internet. HA HA HA! But seriously, if you don't even know what questions you should be asking, try this website. http://janis7hepc.com/ I like it because it is well organized, and I'm not.
