Guest guest
Hey, I find that a fscinating idea! A good use for over-and-above scobys! A good way to jazz up fruit juice. I suppose it must be a similar idea as water Kefir, which can be done with juice. " Kombucha is very potent as a culture - there are likely lots of juices like Pomegranate which are also suitable. I just use my regular scobies, extras I try to give away. Yes, its like juice Kefir, in that we drink both with mineral water. Water Kefir with dried fruit and sugar we don't do here cos of the sugar - and sulphur in the dried fruit, which gives some reactions such as severe asthma. Tibicos/Japanese Crystals we do in apple juice. And yet, I would look upon this fruity way of doing it as a side-line. True Kombucha does require the nutrients of camellia sinensis, doesn't it? " Where does that come from? I find it a very strange notion that tea should dry out skin and stain teeth. Green, white and lighter black teas certainly are not guilty of that, on the contrary!! I use well matured Kombucha tea daily as skin lotion - with very good results - no skin dryness! In fact, I'm sure some of my wrinkles have disappeared ;-) " Most here have always drunk strong Indian tea, especially the Wesleyans. It stains their teeth, big time. The pale green tea at Asian restaurants, would not offend tho'. Thanks, Lizzie for the interesting suggestion of using Kombucha in apple juice. Very refreshing in the summer, no doubt. I will certainly try it! " Yes, we are getting to the end of one hell of a summer here, thanks to Greenhouse. We usually manage an inch or two of Kombuchaed apple juice on top of mineral water, once a day. Sometimes we have tibicos for a few days, to ring the changes. A big plus for us is that they only take 2 days to ferment, sometimes one day only in heatwaves. best, Lizzie
