Just Wondering

Hm, this is a new one for me--Todd had severe reflux until he was 14 months old.  I know each child is different, but for him, thinner liquids actually worsened the reflux.  Some docs suggest thickening formula with infant cereal, though ours did not recommend that since he was just a newborn at that time and would not have been able to digest it easily enough, she said.

Our GI doc said the acidity of apple juice might aggravate reflux--maybe that is why watering it down helps it not to reflux so much?  But I don't know why she'd strangle while drinking it.  Unless....I just had a thought--maybe it's related to the textural aversions that go along with infant reflux? What do you think?   Todd had lots of that for a while--would not eat mushy things.  The GI said it's not unusual at all for reflux babies to get textural aversions.

Good luck with it!

I water down everything but milk. I don't do it because of reflux though. I just think Thaddeus doesn't need all the sugar

I was just wondering if anyone else is having to water down their childs juice to keep them from getting strangled or if it was just Nora's reflux? I have to water down everything but milk, I had to water it down before I switched her to 2%. She doesn't have any problems with solids now, but it took me up until she was almost 3 to get her to eat them. I never known a child to be almost 4 years old and still get strangled on juice!
