Guest guest
Hi, I'm new to this board (although we have been on the GFCFKids board for several months now). We just got some new labs back on my 28 mo. old daughter Hannah (high functioning autism or Asperger's), and they showed she has elevated antibodies to epstein-barr virus and cocksackie B3 & B5. SHe also has some signs of autoimmune issues--elevated IgE, borderline low Ig! (IgG normal), elevated CD4 T Cell lymphocites and " equivocable " immunity to chicken pox, depsite having been vaccinated for it. IT seems to me these results are consistent with theories about viral/autoimmune causes to autism. See e.g. www.jorsm.com/~binstock/chronic1.htm " Atypical Chronic-Infections nad Other Immune Atypicalities in Autism Spectrum Children: Preliminary Data Suggesting a New Diagnostic Subgroup " by Binstock. However, my pediatrician, while she agreed to read the article I gave her, is not yet convinced there is any relevance to our findings. I would love to be pointed toward other, more scientific articles I can give her. More importantly, I need advice on treatment protocol. I may be able toconvince my pediatrician to prescribe some treatments if I can make a good case for it. I have heard about Dr. GOldberg's anti-viral therapies, but don;t knwo which would work best for ebv. Acyclovir? Valtrex? What are the risks and side effects? What about IVIG and Transfer Factor? (That I know our insurance won't pay for!). Why does Dr. GOldberg prescribe SSRIs as part of his protocol? Aren't these very risky in such young children? Any reason to use antibiotics as well? I see people are often using these in combinatin with Valtrex, but don't quite udnerstand why. WIll the anti-virals work in isolation, or is it necessary to use the SSRI's, antibiotics or other meds as well? WE live in Washington state. I called Dr. GOldber's office in CA, but he is not taking new patients right now. Our DAN doctor is only so knowledgable when it comes to . I need help educating my doctors! My daughter's biggest behavoir issues these days are OCD behaviors, and they are becoming a BIG problem. Her speech is doing gret (except for pronoun reversal), and she is making progress in eye contact and social skills. I'd really appreciate any advice you can share! THanks!
