Guest guest
s appt with the new immuno, Dr Hobday, was an extremely positive one. It is the first time a doctor has actually looked at all of s problems as one, and feels they may well be interconnected, with an autoimmune response happening. He is asking a collegue to see , between them they will determine what tests and procedures are required so it can all be done at the same time, reducing trauma to because he recognises he has been put through much in the past year. A fresh opinion on the mouth ulcers was useful, too. He does not believe it is viral, by presentation. He also doesnt think it is SJS and is dubious it is med related. Rather that it is tied in with an auto immune response. is at the end of an ulcer cylce today so his mouth was mercifully unimpressive, but as happened last week, this lasts less than 24 hours and he has gone to bed with a new cycle starting. Dr Hobday wants to see him when the ulcers are at their peak to get some idea on what they look like at their worst. He has ordered a barium swallow which is being done next week to check the degree of reflux in case aspiration is part of the reason for s repeated lung infections and broncho pnuemonias. The appointment didnt begin so positively, his first pearls of wisdom were ' one in every 500 people have an IgA deficiency', which had my hopes sinking, but within minutes his attitude had changed as he reviewed s history, his past and current infections and illnesses, and listened as I answered his questions. I mean, he really listened. He recognises that not only does s deficiency affect him in a profound way but that he also has a poor antibody response, and further immunological problems that the previous immuno had not investigated. There is this hope growing within me that I have finally found the dr who is going to help . , mum to (5, pids) and (3, Selective IgA def, Dysfunctional Antibody def, C3 Def, Chronic Paroxysmal Hemicrania, Chronic Mouth Ulcers, Bilateral Hydronephrosis, Urinal Incontinence,Reactive Airway,Eczema,Chronic Constipation/Low GI Motility,Early Onset Hypothyroidism, Joint Pain, Lymphadenopathy, Reflux, periods of unintelligable speech, lethargy.
