Guest guest
I think the dosage is in direct relation to what he finds in the NeuroSpect scan. My son weighs about 82lbs. and he started him on 1/8 twice a day, but just DEcreased it to 1/8 once a day. Since you haven't had the scan yet, that's probably why he started him on that minimal dose and then will adjust after he sees the scan. But, believe it or not, we saw good results with that dosage. He later introduced Strattera, and that's why the decrease in the Tenex to only once a day. We saw results pretty quickly - more focused and saying more words (he's basically non-verbal). Probably took only a couple of weeks before seeing the change. Since he still didn't look " right " and leaned more toward zoney as opposed to hyper, that's why he decreased and thinks we may see better results from the Strattera - maybe without the Tenex at all. Hope that helps! > Hi all > > Dr. G. started my 5 year old 32 pound son on Tenex 1/8 twice a day. I am > not sure how this little amount can do anything but we will see. Guest guest
My son seems very tired on the Tenex (1/8 he is 30 pounds). Does this effect go away? I was also wondering if anyone started at age 4 and how long before they saw real results. We have been on it since November. My son just turned 5 and we are about to start more in-home, social and ABA programs. Although he has come very far I just am not sure that these med's for life are a good thing. I have asked this question before I was wondering if anyone had a new take on it. Thanks as always

That was the only negative symptom my son had with the increased dosage and his blood pressure was low during that time. Spreading out the dosage into three times a day removed the tiredness. I imagine it would be very hard to spread out such a low dose but you might ask Dr. G about cutting 1/4 a tablet into three doses to spread it out more (assuming he's now taking 1/8tab 2x/day). Guest guest
Dear , Thanks for asking this question! I was going to post a similar email. My son is 3 years and 2 months old. We're going to the NNY clinic for the first time in October... I am really interested in hearing about the results that people have seen. I'm also worried about the meds. But, at least they check liver function once a month. Thanks in advance for any responses. :-) dazseaton@... wrote: My son seems very tired on the Tenex (1/8 he is 30 pounds). Guest guest
Hello all, My 4y/o ASD son is currently on Famvir, Celexa, Tenex,Diflucan, EFA's and Super Nu Thera, I have not changed anything in weeks, since upping his Celexa all he wants to do is sleep or watch videos. Today he took a 3 hr nap (extremely unsual , he only sleeps 7-9 hrs a night no naps for years) and now he has very dark circles under his eyes. Has anyone ever experience this, I'm really worried, of coarse he's been asking to go to sleep since waking up. (Very limited verbal skills) Thanks everyone, Joie Meade <jenniferdmeade@...> wrote: Dear , Thanks for asking this question! I was going to post a similar email. My son is 3 years and 2 months old. Guest guest
It could be a sign that he is not tolerating it--not going thru proper sleep cycles so that he is always sleepy. But then he might need more time to adjust. I would relay this to Dr. Goldberg. --- Joie Rightmier <joiesports@...> wrote: > Hello all, > > My 4y/o ASD son is currently on Famvir, Celexa, > Tenex,Diflucan, EFA's and Super Nu Thera, > I have not changed anything in weeks, since upping > his Celexa all he wants to do is sleep or watch > videos. Guest guest
Joie, My son had same problem with Celexa when the dose is high, he also wet bed. Ask your doctor if you should pull it back if it still happening after a while. I saw you still use Super Nu Thera, if dr. G will ask you to stop take mega vitamine and supplements (EPA) before a child is on protocol. Many of us used to use Super Nu Thera, and EPA and more. We do not miss them after they are stopped. You may want to do the same. I rember my son got quite hyper on everyday Nuthera after start protocal. Jin > My son seems very tired on the Tenex (1/8 he is 30 pounds). Does this > effect go away? Guest guest
We started the protocal with the NY clinic in April 2004, a month before my son turned 4. He was classified as severly autistic. He had no speech, very little receptive language and major behavioural issues. While we saw immediate improvement in his overall health, it has taken much longer for us to see improvements in his autistic type behaviours. We did see small improvements, but they were like baby steps. In July of this year (a year & 3 months into the protocal), we did a med change to Diflucan, and it was like the lightbulb came on. He's doing great in school/therapy. His receptive language has increase dramatically. He's sleeping at night (which he'd ver done). Speech is starting to come. We still have a long way to go, but I feel like we've turned the corner. In , dazseaton@a... wrote: > My son seems very tired on the Tenex (1/8 he is 30 pounds). Does this > effect go away? Guest guest
Jin, I actually did not start him on Super Nu Thera or EFA's until after he was on the protocol. We started w/ Dr.G last Sept. and while doing more research I've added these on my own and seen improvements. I love what Dr. G does for our children, I just like a broader range as no one therapy works for all the kids. I actually strted adding other things after reading a book called " Real Boy " by . I got a flyer for it in Dr. G's office, he did a forward for the book. Ms. sees Dr. G but also does her own research and tries various things to open doors for her son. It was from this book that I realized that I need to look at other options not just . Thanks for the advice, I'm just really worried because all Conor wants to do is sleep (He never did before) and I know that the SSRI's can cause depression in young children, and this may be COnor's way of telling me this since his language is limited. Thanks for the response Jin, you're the only one who did. Joie jinyang061629 <yanglou@...> wrote: Joie, My son had same problem with Celexa when the dose is high, he also wet bed. Guest guest
Remember, Guanfacine or Tenex is a vascodilator and is used specifically to reduce blood pressure in patients with high blood pressure. If your child already has blood pressure on the low side, then Tenex might have this effect. Might be worth getting blood pressure taken. Re: Re: tenex? Lethargy and fatique are side effects of many SSRIs. Both my son and husband had this when taking SSRIs in the AM. Switching to taking them in the PM helped a lot. We had to experiment with the best time of day. My husband does best taking them at bedtime and my son does best taking them with dinner. With the dark circles under the eyes though, I'd suspect possible allergy since that can also cause fatique. A lot of people have allergic reactions to things in Super Nu Thera and various EFA supplements. Gaylen
Guest guest
Joie Dr G says these are called allergy shiners (dark circles) and are attributed to either an upped allergic response in the child, or an upped immune response to viral activity. Is it possible he has gotten dairy in something new? Or, like my area of the country, weed pollens are very high right now. HTH > > My son seems very tired on the Tenex (1/8 he is 30 pounds). Guest guest
Is the tenex for anxiety? and if a child is on paxil, isn't that typically prescribed for anxiety? I took one pill once and it made me nausous and dizzy. > > Does Dr G still recommend taking tenex along with an SSRI and anti viral? Guest guest
Tenex is an an old blood pressure medicine, but it is used often for ADD. But at the same time, it seems to help anxiety and OCD to some extent. All of those show up in a spect as increased blood flow in the deep lower part of the brain (basal ganglia area?)... maybe because of the inflammation of the blood vessels higher up in the brain restricting the blood flow and causing it to 'back up' in the lower part of the brain? Tenex works as a vasodilator so maybe it does double duty by helping increase blood flow higher into the brain and relieving the 'hotter' areas lower down... ________________________________ From: W <nicolewallaceouaf@...> Sent: Fri, September 17, 2010 1:22:25 PM Subject: Re: Tenex?  Is the tenex for anxiety? and if a child is on paxil, isn't that typically prescribed for anxiety?
