Guest guest
I know that Dr. G also prescribes Tenex for Hyper Active. But first, what is hyper active? does not have ADD or ADD diagnosis, I have asked doctors before, all of them said does not have ADD, or ADHD. However, has very hard time concentrate on home work. He usually does everything else but home work: reading books, wandering around room, on his head, or rocking his chair, half hour work stretch to 2 hour. Can Tenex help this behavior? Guest guest
Jin, What you are describing sounds similar to Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD - I'm not a doctor and this is NOT a diagnosis). My son has been diagnosed with High-Functioning Autism. This includes some ADD-like symptoms that are being treated with Concerta. I haven't heard of Tenex. Tony Tenex? Guest guest
my son is 6 yrs old and is on tenex for hyperactivity. as i told dr g, i really dont see much difference. although, we are on very small dose of tenex--maybe thats the problem. anyway, hyper activity in my situation is that my son is so hyper it is hard for him to sit down to work or complete tasks. good luck! vicki in los angeles
Guest guest
Barb, Vicki, and Tony, Thanks for the feed back. I did not take him for neurospect, but if we going to see Dr. Goldberg next year in CA, I will make sure he has one. I am fairly believe that has FHA, and does not have Hyper Activity. He had a lot of sensory and communication problems, enough to consider as having FHA. As for ADD, it is also at back of my mind, but he has not earned the label for it yet. Last year his special ED teacher asked me to try out drugs in Concerta class, to help with his distractions; I decided to wait until I see Dr. G. is doing much better recently, he is very responsive, much shorter transition time, but he still has hard time with home work and chores. Now his distraction is a little different (although the results are same): now he is most likely to get distracted between problems, he used to get distracted when ever it happens. I am trying to figure out if it is a discipline issue, a sensory issue, or a medical (ADD) issue, so I know if it is good idea to ask Dr. G for medication. Guest guest
Tony, Did Concerta really help? Guest guest
Jin, Yes, he has better concentration. It only lasts about 12 hours, though. So you have to get to the homework early. It was kind of a " wow " drug for us, once we hit the 36mg dosage (and later, the 54). He's been on it for about 3 years. In fact, it was his only drug, until recently. It wouldn't hurt to ask Dr. G about it, but I just wanted to throw in a little reminder not to rule out other factors before jumping to any conclusions. Guest guest
Donna, I think the cold does affect him, because he is clearly not able to do as well as last week. How ever, at first round of Valtrex (with no SSRI), he was able to take care of him self at morning before he come done for breakfast after a few weeks. The behavior stopped after we stopped Valtrex. But this time around, he is continuing not able to concentrate on his chore; he is worse this week with the cold. How long was on protocol before he was able to concentrate on his task? Guest guest
<<How long was on protocol before he was able to concentrate on his task?<< He's always had a tendency to perseverate rather than to be distractable, so it's hard to say. But his overall ability to attend and focus has improved steadily since the beginning, but it's been the most dramatic since we found the right SSRI. Guest guest
We have not started Tenex as of yet. However I was wondering do the children stay on the SSRI with the Tenex? We are also getting ready to do a (Neurospec) on the 14th. They are going to put my son under. Has anyone had their child sedated? How was that? Any information would be great

It went like charm (besides IV of course, no one like it). Sedation if very short and my son got out from the office in 20 min. He was a little bit sleepy and dizzy for about another 20 min and then was just fine (asked to eat, went to the swimming pool, you name it). We came to the office about 8.20 and everything took less then 2 h. We had an appointment with Dr.Goldberg at 2 pm the same day and my some was bright and alert as usual. For patients who come out of L.A. - it is possible to do everything in one day, preliminary results were faxed to Dr.G strait away. I planed to write about the visit and i am using this opportunity now. Santa monica office take insurance, but you have to pay anesthesiologist $750 no matter what, he does not take insurance at all. He provided us with detailed recite and we are going to submit it strait away. For people coming out of state I recommend to stay in Comfort Inn, it is just four blocks away and you can walk to the office and back (parking is expensive). There is nice pool in the hotel. Cost is less then $100. Good luck and do not be afraid. The only once scary moment when child falls asleep, it happened in a second. Be prepared. Guest guest
I cannot say that I saw improvements with either son on the tenex. The last neurospect we had done in July: our older's blood flow improved. Our younger's got worse. Interestingly, it is the older that has the more severe nids symptoms with re. to learning and cognition. --- dazseaton@... wrote: > How long before you saw improvements? Guest guest
My son tried Tenex this February without having a neurospect. In our case, Tenex did not work. He became withdrawn, did not sleep well, became very sensitive. He acted like he had a headache- head ramming into people and he had many tantrums. He was on it for about 3 weeks before discontinuing. - in Mobile, AL Reality lies beyond the horizon... Wonderwegian
Guest guest
My son has also been on Tenex without a spec scan. He responded immediately with more focus, greater attention and completion of task - most noticeably on longer steps and more complicated tasks without prompts or reminders. He is not on an SSRI and we hadn't changed his anti viral or antifungal for sometime prior to that. I think the intensity of the initial jump forward may not have lasted and we are considering upping his dose slightly. He is currently on 1/8 in the am and 1/4 in the late afternoon. I think once he gets back to school I will be able to see a bit more clearly if the increase is warranted. Lori
Guest guest
Hi all Dr. G. started my 5 year old 32 pound son on Tenex 1/8 twice a day. I am not sure how this little amount can do anything but we will see. It is almost impossible to cut. We are having a Neurospec on 9/14. I was surprised he started it so close to that. I was wondering how long before anyone saw results good or bad? It has only been one day. Maybe he is a little more tired (Maybe) however that's it. Any information would be great. Guest guest
We saw some positive effects within a few days but they were very subtle on the lower doses. The fatique symptom (and blood pressure a bit too low) was the main reason we dropped the dosage back down and instead went to three times a day. Since the med reduces blood pressure, you want to be careful not to reduce it too much. Gaylen
