OT: Update on me

Well, I'm not dying. That's the really important thing! I went to see my oncologist yesterday afternoon to hear more about what he thought was behind my wacky blood test results. He had called me a few weeks ago and the call was a bit alarming but yesterday he said that the blood test results (low white count and platelets that showed up a couple of times this year and has showed up periodically for at least the last 15 years) could be caused by a lot of different things, one of which a form of leukemia (which is what he'd said in his call, he said he didn't need to test more or treat it now but it still freaked me out). He said it is still a possibility but he doesn't think that's what it is. He also said if that were it, that it is a benign, chronic condition (like RA or diabetes). To know for sure, he'd have to do a bone marrow scan and doesn't want to do that because I don't have any symptoms that anything is wrong. If I were having trouble fighting off infections, then for sure he'd do it. I'm the one who is hardly ever sick so there is even less cause right now, unless that starts happening. He said my last labs, done a month ago, were perfect too. He did some extremely expensive special test too and it came out fine. He wants me to get a blood test (just regular stuff not the special one) every 2 months for a while (not sure how long but he didn't think a long time) just to monitor it and see if there's any kind of pattern or anything else he can see from them. I'll also see him in 4 months for a followup and to see where, if anywhere, he wants to go with it. If I'm still fine, which I should be, then it would go nowhere probably. Anyway, he gave me a long list of other things that could be causing the screwy blood counts but said it could also be that I'm wired that way too (screwy, which also makes sense). He doesn't want to do any further testing right now to isolate a cause too because it wouldn't change his current course of just monitoring being that there doesn't seem to be anything to treat. There might be, but if there is, it isn't causing problems right now so it is fine not to spend money and time chasing it to just do nothing anyway. So... I'm fine and feeling a lot better about it all too! I purposely did not take notes on the various possible causes or jot down their names or even try to remember them. I knew I'd just google them and drive myself nuts so I'm happy to say I don't remember any of them and have nothing to google now! I'll just go about my business for 2 months, have a blood test done, wait to hear from him on the results, do another one and then go in to see him to discuss them and see if we need to do more 2 month testing or whatever. PHEW!!!

Happy, healthy dancing!
