Barbie, the ped sent us to the allergist because he suspected mold

allergies. Everytime it rains she ends up wheezing terribly. He did the

test on her back, and even injected it in her arm. Nothing. I was crushed!

The next morning she's complaining her back itches and her arm itches. I

lifted up her shirt, and there is a red whelp the size of a silver dollar.

Same thing on her arm. I called the allergist the next morning, and told

the nurse what I wanted to know. She called me back, and I asked her if he

said the mom was crazy, and she said " He said to tell you the pediatrician

is always right! He'll send out the new batch of allergy extract this

week " . Sometimes you can have delayed reactions. Watch for them.

thanks , reacted immediately to 8 molds. Interesting they were

the farm variety not the usual in home mold. We had heavy growth of

Cladisporium in our attic from an unknown leak in our garage about 4 years

ago and I assumed she would respond to it but she did not. We live in the

Northwest so rain and molds are very common in our neck of the woods. BARBIE

HI Barbie,

Sorry that I did not get back to you sooner. I am not all that familiar

with telangia's. I know that there is an immune deficiency called Ataxia

Telangiectasia that has a component involving dilated blood vessels

that usually present in the eyes, ears, neck etc. With AT, the ataxia

generally appears first. Vasculitis (inflammation of the blood vessels) can

usually be confirmed by skin biopsies or renal biopsy (GI biopsy is a

different story). They usually look for deposits of immune complexes in the

tissues, this can be difficult to detect in some patients and some will not

have such deposits. Another way to determine vasculitis is to check acute

phase reactants (CRP, ESR, etc), rheumatoid factors and serum complement

levels are also very helpful. Generally speaking there is a palpable

purpura. The GI involvement is usually seen as a colicky type of pain with

nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or constipation sometimes with blood in the

stool. There is a long list of vasculitis syndromes, some are small vessel

and some are large. Steroids are sometimes used to treat the GI component,

which is what made me think of Lucas. Does Lucas have palpable purpura on

his skin at all? If so, I would inquire further about the possibility of a

vasculitis type syndrome. Good luck to you. Let me know if I can be of

further help.

Autumn (Mark Cd5-Cd19 PID and )
