GA-Parent list serv

I would like members of the list servs I am affiliated with and disability community members who are also members of GA-Parent to know that I have removed myself as a member of the list. I was willing to stay on the list when it was reopened and continue to provide support and information, however the same informational e-mails I sent to all my list servs Thursday were screened and rejected by the GA-Parent moderator. Therefore I can no longer justify staying affiliated with a list where the moderator is screening, censoring, and rejecting e-mails at will. I know others this has happened to all also. I also know several members who were secretly removed without being told or given notice.

This practice concerns me greatly as an advocate for disabled children and a member who has supported this list serv for a very long time, donated hundreds of volunteer hours answering questions and providing information, and spent my own organizational money through CHADD to advertise for this list to bring parents together. I simply can no longer condone the moderators activities. When controversy arose regarding the BCW program, she inappropriately, in my opinion, shut down the list serv.

This moderator is now bad mouthing and "threatening" the new GA-ChildrensNetwork which was established to offer a completely different service and concept as GA-Parent, which is simply to bring parents, advocates, and professionals together to help disabled children's families in a forum where parents feel safe and free to discuss their children's matters. It has come to my attention that she and others within the DOE are on a "mission" as they call it to bring us down and I simply cannot understand why this list and the moderators are being systematically attacked and threatened in this manner. I think all of you would find this kind of activity quite disturbing, and possibly illegal.

I am certainly not trying to coerce anyone to do the same as I, that is not my purpose for writing this e-mail. I just think it is very important for members of the disability community at large to know what has occurred so you can make informed decisions for yourself and I am simply offering my explanation and opinions. You are obviously going to hear or have already heard another side. I also think it is important for those of you who are affiliated with various disability organizations here in GA to let your Executive Directors, support groups and members know that this is happening on GA-Parent and within the disability community because of the serious nature of these activities.

If I loose credibility for offering my side to this ridiculous matter, so be it, parents of disabled children and disability organizations need to be informed. I for one, simply want this assault to stop! GA is 50th in the Nation in educating our children, we have much more important battles to fight.

Please feel free to forward to other disability list servs in GA and to various disability organization leaders.

Thank you,

Carol Sadler
