I think people are making a bigger case for the swine flu than it really is. However, if you feel that your child needs to due any kind of medical condition, then by all means get it. My son however, had his first flu shot last year, ended up with bronchitis a few days later. (He ended up on a nebulizer) I was hesitant on the second one but did it any way. He ended up the same way again after the shot. I refused it this year. I rather take my chances either way he gets sick badly.

Both Cole and I have had the H1N1. I talked to our doctors and they said they would absolutely recommend it for both of us. Neither of us had any reactions to it, though we both had the inactive one. Cole is still waiting for his second shot. I felt that if cole got the flu that it would be worse because they could have to cut off the cast and risk his curve getting worse and possibly postpone casting if he comes down with anything. I also felt that I go to university and with cole in the hospital every couple of months I felt that we were at a very high risk of coming across the virus.

Hi, Abi has had the first vaccine here in the UK a couple of weeks back as part

of a trial. She didn't have any side effects and it all seemed quite straight

forward, she has her second jab in just over a week.

in Spain they still don´t have the vaccine out, not for another 2 weeks..

Typical socialism for you!!! LOL.. There have been a lot of cases and some

really sever ones, even for those without any respiratory complications.

Since Santi has connective tissue, i was wondering what the doctors over there

are recommending and what most of you are doing.  How about secondary

complications, has there been many problems?? Curious and nervous about this..

Thanks for any comments..

I have just vaccinated my son Hayden this past Monday for H1N1 and he is fine so far. No side effects yet, not even swollen and red at the injection site. He is high risk because he has mitral valve stenosis (heart defect). I understand your concerns and I probably would not have done it if he wasn't high risk. Joanmom to Hayden 2 1/233 degrees1st cast down from 62 degrees Treated at ish Rite Hospital Dallas, TX

Hi Kelli,

I decided to have vaccinated. His doctor finally got the vaccines on Wednesday and we were lucky enough to be on his list of high risk kids. He only received 200 of them. I know this is a hot button issue over here in the States but I think that as parents we make what we feel is the right decision for our own kids. I am behind all parents decisions whatever that may be. it's a scary thing. For my son who has only 43% lung function I think that the threat of the flu is more then the risk of the vaccine.

My doc said that every year they come out with new flu vaccines because the regular flu vac is new every year and those new vaccines are only tested for one month prior to giving it to the public. He said this H1N1 is the same...Just a thought.

Both of my kids actually got the virus already, so no point in vaccinating now as they now have the immunities in their bodies. Ian had the flu mist for seasonal flu and it didn't protect him from the H1N1 obviously. I am leary of the flu mists and the shots because they don't test them long enough and because of thirmerasol (sp?) etc. H1N1 was only tested on 1000 people for 3 weeks before it was released although that is normal for the flu vaccines. I probably would not do the mist again either.

Strangely, neither myself nor Glenn got sick from the kids.

None of us will get it or the regular flu shot. My boys are 4 1/2 and have never had the flu shot or the flu. I would rather us all get the flu and or swine flu than to get the shot. Of course now that I have said that we will all get sick. God I hope not!BUT I will say children if I had a child with underlying conditions I would be thinking about it. Hi Kelli

I noticed you mentioned your son has connective tissue. What excatly is that? My son is being tested for a connective tissue disorder due to his low muscle tone. Does your son have a connective tissue disorder? I hope you dont mind me asking, I've just never heard of anyone else who knows about connective tissue. Thanks

Unfortunatly here in Spain they still don´t have the vaccine out, not for another 2 weeks.. Typical socialism for you!!! LOL.. There have been a lot of cases and some really sever ones, even for those without any respiratory complications. Since Santi has connective tissue, i was wondering what the doctors over there are recommending and what most of you are doing. How about secondary complications, has there been many problems?? Curious and nervous about this.. Thanks for any comments..

they would absolutely recommend it for both of us.  Neither of us had any

reactions to it, though we both had the inactive one.  Cole is still waiting

for his second shot.  I felt that if cole got the flu that it would be worse

because they could have to cut off the cast and risk his curve getting worse and

possibly postpone casting if he comes down with anything. I also felt that I go

to university and with cole in the hospital every couple of months I felt that

we were at a very high risk of coming across the virus.

We were just having this discussion on the VBS forum as well. I said what

Connie did - that I don't think there is a right or wrong decision, but rather

parents need to do what they are comfortable with. I have friends who are

nurses, PTs, etc. and they have varied views on this issue, which shows that

even among the medical profession, there are different opinions. The child's

health issues, if any, also need to be taken into consideration which is why

it's a very personal and individual decision.

As for , he has no other health issues besides scoliosis, so if the vaccine

becomes available here (I'm told it will likely be later this month), I'm pretty

sure I will get it for him. I am not comfortable with the nasal spray form of

it though. Again, that's just me and I wouldn't question anyone else's

decision, whatever it may be.

> Hi Kelli,

> I decided to have vaccinated. His doctor finally got the vaccines on

Wednesday and we were lucky enough to be on his list of high risk kids. He only

received 200 of them. I know this is a hot button issue over here in the States

but I think that as parents we make what we feel is the right decision for our

own kids. I am behind all parents decisions whatever that may be. it's a scary

thing. For my son who has only 43% lung function I think that the threat of the

flu is more then the risk of the vaccine.

> My doc said that every year they come out with new flu vaccines because the

regular flu vac is new every year and those new vaccines are only tested for one

month prior to giving it to the public. He said this H1N1 is the same...Just a

thought.
