Guest guest
Most of the allergy elimination diets say to take out a food for at least 4 days and then retry to see if it is a problem. I'd wait a week at first, then retry the same day of the week a few times to see if she does worse on those days. Gaylen
Guest guest
Shona, Have you tried making meat puffs for protein? The recipe is in Special diets for Special Kids. You basically puree some ground meat (I use turkey or chicken) into a paste. You can use a good blender or mixer. Then add some baking powder, g/f flour, and an egg. Form into balls and bake. They taste more " breadish " than " meatish " . I tell they're tater tots (which they do look like) and he'll eat them. I add a bit of broccoli too for some stealth veggies. My tend to turn out a bit dry, though........ LMK if anyone wants the exact recipe Or how about beans for protein? loves Bush's baked beans, I rinse them off first to remove some of the sweet sugary sauce (which is exactly why he likes them) Last I checked they're gf, they have caramel color but it's corn derived. Delimex beef taquitos are also gf/cf.(the big boxes at Sams Club are OK, check the label- the ones that say " grilled " are not gf) Not the healthiest in the fat dept., but a good quick protein if corn is OK. I guess I'm really lucky 's a meat/bean eater.....it's pretty much his only protein source anymore (eggs,nuts/seeds and soy are out) Good luck Becky support please > O.k. guys I need some advice here. Guest guest
Thanks Becky. Please let me have the recipe for the meat balls. I'm going to try salmon patties tonight with her to see if I can get her to eat them. Guest guest
Becky, can I make them using egg substitute instead? Skyler, my youngest, is allergic to eggs. I'm afraid to make anything he can't eat, cause he eats everything, unlike Chaia. Also, is completely GF? Have you seen better results with that than with the do's and don'ts of diet? Just curious. Guest guest
Hi Shona, The only fruit that my son will eat is bananas also.He reacts behaviorally as well as getting red hot ears. Our allergist suggested that instead of stopping a food that he really loves, try giving him only ORGANIC and very ripe bananas ~ make sure that they have brown spots on them. I'm sorry, I know that he said something about non-organic bananas being artifically ripened and lots of kids react to them but I don't remember what he called the process. The riper the better because it is easier to digest. My little guy can eat one a day with no problem now. Take care. --- Original Message ----- From: Shona Jordan Sent: Sunday, September 14, 2003 10:06 PM Subject: support please O.k. guys I need some advice here. I've been doing a lot of research on phenols and their effects on behavior, etc. According to the do's and don'ts of diet the kids can have one piece of fruit per day. Occasionally Chaia will have two bananas, but not often. However, she doesn't like protein with the exception of fish or chicken and refuses to eat any vegetables. She will eat homemade french fries, bread, rice, and potatoes along with the fish or chicken. I want to try to completely remove the bananas from her diet and see if it helps things with her. My dh thinks I've lost my mind and am being cruel to a kid who only eats a limited diet anyway. How long do we need to eliminate the bananas for to see if it helps? Is a week long enough, or do we need to go for two? I just have a gut feeling that we're missing something with her diet. I know she needs to eat more protein, but for the life of me can't figure out how to get her to eat it. I've left plates out on the table, refused to fix anything else, etc. This has been going on for over a year. She just doesn't eat a lot of anything. Thanks for letting me rant and someone please throw some advice my way. Shona
Guest guest
They sound like meatballs. Can you use ground beef and fry them instead, like regular meatballs? Then they wouldn't be so dry. My son will eat meatballs. Kathy Re: support please Shona, Have you tried making meat puffs for protein? The recipe is in Special diets for Special Kids. Guest guest
Shona, Shona, I use egg substitute for them, they turn out OK. I use the Ener-G brand, it seems to work fine texture wise. is gluten, dairy, nut/seed, citrus, grape, brown rice, oat, berry, egg, and tropical fruit-free. We were bascically doing the do and don't diet before starting with Dr. G, but his stools were never normal (better than when on diary by far, but not normal). When we got our food screen results back (very bad) Dr. G. told us to eliminate all these other foods, and a few mos. later his poops started looking better. Now they're actually solidish and regular. Its a tough diet but you actually get used to it, just like everything else with . we probably eat too much carbs sometimes, tho. Guest guest
Jo and Grant and Family, While grateful to know that all the kids in the immediate family are doing alright, I felt just awful when I read about the illness and health problems other family members are coping with. At this time of year, especially, when we'd hope that everyone would be feeling their best and able to enjoy spending time with one another. I'm so sorry that things are not going well. I am sending warm thoughts and hoping that very soon we will hear an update ~ with at least some bit of positive news. Aloha, Georgina support please We ask for your Prayers, positive thoughts, or whatever it is you do- as we're not having a great run right now. Without going into too much detail, we've had 4 family members in hospital in the past 3-4 weeks. Jo's mum and sister, plus Grant's father and mother- his mum collapsing on Christmas Day. Bayly, thankfully, is ok. So too Violet and . So please, think of us. Hope all is well with you and yours, Best wishes for the New Year.
