Guest guest
Hello everybody! Well, I recently had some medical tests at work, and it seems that not everything is normal. Maybe some of you could have any idea about if this is normal for a macrobiotic person or not. I've been macro since February 2006. My weight changed from 96kg to 70kg. My height is 1,82 cm. I feel pretty well now (not perfect), but previously I had quite a number of problems! Overall, I am quite satisfied with the effect of macrobiotics in my life. Well, the 'wrong' data are as follows (the other were normal): Platelets: 120.000 (normal range: 130.000-450.000) White blood cells: 4.100 ( nr: 4.500-11.500) Neutrophils: 1.995 (nr: 2.000-8.000) Cholesterol: 127 (nr: 130-220) Moreover, I had high blood pressure: 130/90 and high intraocular pressure: 22.7 (right) and 23.7 (left) The doctor told me that probably low counts are due to the lack of animal fat and that I should eat meat, eggs and so. She was very concerned by the possible long-term consequences of macrobiotics. Any comment or suggestion? Is this normal? Maybe there is something I am doing wrong? Guest guest
Hi , Did you get your B12 tested? This might shed more light on your other results. How was your iron results? No the results are not normal so I think a little more investigation would help. As there are so many versions of macrobiotics it is not always clear which one you are eating or which version your doctor is worried about. More information would help. All the best, Simon Hello everybody! Well, I recently had some medical tests at work, and it seems that not everything is normal. Guest guest
Hi Simon, Thank you for your answer. I didn't have B12 tested. Iron was normal. My doctor was worried for the low cholesterol, as she said cholesterol was important for the nervous system. The other low parameters could suggest a malfunction of the bone marrow. The high blood preassure and intraocular pressure also caused concern on her. And, of course, the mb diet! Well, I suppose I should go again to the doctor and ask for more comprehensive tests. I don't like it very much, it doesn't seem to be urgent, but I suppose it should be done. Regarding my particular version of mb, I really can't use a tag for it. It is a mixture from the readings of Oshawa and Kushi, together with some limitations due to the lack of time and expertise on my side. Lots of rice and other cereals, beans, miso soup, seaweeds, gomasio, seitan, tofu, some fish...
