Thanks !! I would love a picture of Matson. Good to know I am not the only one who has kids in pull-ups. Many of my friends' children are younger than the boys and wearing undies at night. I feel the same way you do........washing sheets everyday would get old real fast. How are things going? Update me when you have time. I miss lots I am sure since I am not on FB anymore. What a great idea Tasha, I will find one of Matson in his brace and send it today. And Matson is 4 and still in pull-ups at night (Lily too although she is only 3). Tyler finally was able to stop wearing pull ups at 6, he is a super hard sleeper and just doesn't wake up! I didn't mind, I'd rather do that then change the bed everyday, but some people thought it was too long. As with everything else, every child is different, I am not going to push Matson and Lily, but I hope they are able to go without before 6. :) I am right there with ya!! Take care!

I've found a product on amazon.com called " potty scotty " (there is also one for girls called something else).  They are cotton training pants, very thick and soft.  Great for brace and cast kids because the elastic is completely covered by the soft cloth, and there aren't the bulging seams pressing against their skin like some other brands I've found.  these might help transition from pullups to underwear, since it's uncomfortable to wet them yet not nearly as messy as underwear.  If you encounter resistance to the underwear, this might help because it gives the child that bulkiness they are so accustomed to.

Good luck!

, Mommy to Todd

YES, pullups are really not helping HIM at all. They feel like a diaper to him so he goes pee and poop in them. He pees sitting down on the little potty chair, but he does try to stand over it sometimes and says " this is how daddy does it " . So i think I will try to get him to do it standing more often and then move to the big toilet so we can go out in public with underwear on. He is really doing great, slowly but surely. Thank you for the advice. I will have Mike work with him more with standing up and I will try to go out one of these days without the pullup.. fingers crossed for me...lol.

Joan,I did the same thing for a " little " while after the boys were potty trained.  I am referring to allowing them to wear a pull-up in public.

Question:  Is he peeing sitting or standing?  The boys were potty trained sitting and I quickly saw I needed to train them standing.  Mainly because of being out in public.  So Brant helped me out in that area and we used Cheerios to aim at when Daddy was not around.  Within a week they standing up and within another week they were done with the little potty and wanted to use a potty seat thingy that you put on the big toilet seat.

While out in public I would let them stand up on the big potty as I held them from behind to help them stand.  It worked for us!!!  I did not use pull-ups in public, except for about 2 weeks. The way I feel is the pull-ups are a crutch, but they sure do save us in many situations.  That is why they make it them.....right?

Potty training did not happen over night for us.

I think some kids are just deep sleepers and they tend to have accidents b/c of it. I wouldn't mind doing the pullups either at night, as long as they are going on the potty all day... Hayden is finally wearing underwear and going potty most of the time, but he won't sit on a big toilet so when we go out I have to put him in a pullup. Any suggestions about this ladies??? He wears a pullup at night and will for a WHILE.. thanks

Good luck!

Any suggestions about this ladies?? ? He wears a pullup at night and will for a WHILE.. thanks

Take care!

I guess all I can do is try. > > Tasha> Mommy of 4 year old twin boys- and > Fort Worth, Texas> Series of 6 casts for 14 months and now in a night brace.> is treated at Texas ish Rite Hospital.

> > > Tasha,> > That's an awesome idea for him to see that there are other kids out there like him. I know Isabella is in for a long journey and I'm not looking forward to the days when she starts voicing her opinion about her cast. As for the pull-ups, they all progress at their own time. My boys stopped wearing them by 4 but would have an accident once in a while. I always have a mattress protector on for accidents (or puke). > Patty, mom of Isabella, 2 years old, in 4th cast (Rochester) & mom to & Evan> > > > > ____________ _________ _________ __> From: Tasha Fontenot <ryanswalkyahoo (DOT) com> > To: infantile_scoliosis @yahoogroups. com> Sent: Wed, February 17, 2010 11:17:05 AM> Subject: [infantile_scoliosi s] Brace kids> > > Hi everyone.... .I hope you all are well and staying warm.

> Most of you know is in a brace at night only now. From time to time we have some issues with him wearing it. Nothing major yet, but enough questions are ask to break my heart. Yesterday morning I was taking his brace off and we were discussing when the boys would sleep WITHOUT a pull-up at night(BTW does this ever happen?). quickly said, " And I can go without my brace too! " I told him no he would still have to wear it. With a serious, defeated look on his face he says, " Mommy when will they let me keep it off? " I sank to the floor. It hit me so hard.......just like it always does.

> BUT quickly in a very upbeat voice I told him not yet and went on telling him about other kids that wear a brace.> Now this is where the BRACE KIDS come into the story. I had an idea to make a book with pictures of other children in a brace.
