Guest guest
Hi everyone, Patty here, my question for this evening is: Did anyone have trauma of emotional or physical nature before the onset of thier illness? I am interested because I have read that there seems to be some connection there. I had a VERY stressful year or two before I got sick. It was also after having my daughter that friends and family said I did not look well and that was a good year before any symptoms of Still's. Thank you for your input. Guest guest
Sue, I don't know why but when I check the site our posts are not there, just as well since they are more personal. I have pictures of myself all those years ago when I was on 60mg Prednisone a day. Full moon face etc. Now years later I think my weight is just a symptom of better health. I never used to weigh over 127lbs at 5'9 " now though I weigh 225 (ouch) I hate that more, almost. It's so hard not to judge ourselves by our physical looks be they weight, deformity, scars or whatever. Someday I will figure out how to get my history posted, I wrote it last week and the pictures seem to be my biggest problem. I read that Jen is really busy right now, so I'm not shure if I sent them correctly or not. When I see the pict. on the Juevenile site, they look so much as I used to with the wrists, moon face, etc. Well so nice chatting, Melt

Guest guest
As a matter of fact Randy did. He had an old knee injury from years ago. But came home late one night tripped in the hall, re-injuring that same knee. Couldn't stand up for twenty minutes. That is when the Stills disease started. He also had severe exema as a child. The ruemy thinks he may have had Stills for a long time. But the bad stuff started to happen post fall. Steph
Guest guest
Hi~ Yes, for some time before the acute onset of my stills, I was in a very troubled marriage. I also was extremely ill from some sort of flu-like illness for weeks AND as the stills developed and got worse and worse (although my GP had no idea what was wrong) I was in a very very stressful work environment. I've always felt that some stress was involved in the onset, but who knows? It's interesting, Patty, that you write about not looking so great, I can look back at pictures taken before I became sick and my face looks so stressed and fatigued~ much worse than usual!! ..com wrote: Hi everyone, Patty here, my question for this evening is: Did anyone have trauma of emotional or physical nature before the onset of thier illness? Guest guest
YES.............I AM GETTING MY MESSAGES AGAIN!!!! thanks everyone!!!! Patty to answer your question........YES...........my doctor just asked me the same thing...........In my case...........I think it was physically for me. I had a complete hysterectomy at the age of 30......during the surgery, the doctor stabbed my bladder......it was repaired, but two weeks later, the whole bladder completely tore in half!!! I had three surgery's in five days and 12 surgery's in that same year to reconstruct the bladder again. During the stay in the hospital, my left kidney started to fail.....my body went through too much shock at once..it was horrible. I was hospitalized for a month. On the emotional side, obviously this horrible......... but before the hysto...........I was left pregnant with my second child also..........alone for a year and alone through the birth...........I gained six pounds my whole pregnancy and delivered five weeks early...........I was VERY sick and had clamsia (spelling?)...................I believe that the emotional stress of my divorce during my pregnancy and the hysterectomy was too much toll on my body. Everyone around me told me how awful I looked. I was anorexic.........weighing in at 98 pounds...........since all of this Patty, I have never been healthy again.........putting the divorce aside.........I took the proper measures for myself and healed wonderfully and went to support groups for my emotional well-being.........it was very comforting and I now teach a support class for people facing divorce, so I have tried to heal one part of me that faced severe trauma in my life and that began with my emotional well-being first and I am glad that I made this choice first, but on the health side............I have gone down hill since my surgery.........just my two cents worth........................I definitely think this is an important factor in my disease now and somehow believe that it was triggered from this. Guest guest
Glad someone can spell! Embarrassing for a nurse! But your question was great! Really makes one think, aye? Randy seems to be in some sort of a remission with the plaquinel, but now gets migraines. No more 104 fevers, screaming for Clyde and picking at the air. (Hallucinating) I work in a locked down psych unit and come home to the very same! OY! Steph You to me. are the ambassador of good will. A welcome addition! Guest guest
Patty, you are very welcome for the response, and I have had the same problem with weight too................I have put on a lot of weight from prednisone especially. When I go into severe " flares " I usually lose about 10 or 11 pounds, but then gain it right back after I re-start prednisone and other drugs again. I weigh about 135 now and I have always been about 115. There is a huge difference in my body in the last two years, so much of a change that it is very hard to accept at times and I have a problem with it, but my doctor seems to be listening to me. I am sorry to hear about your very emotional times too Patty. Although I hate to hear about people with these problems as well, because I know what all the " stress " does to our bodies, it is comforting on the other side too, because I feel when we discuss things with each other, that everyone teaches each other something with this disease and I often wonder if all the physical trauma and emotional damage as well really had something to do with this disease. Be well Patty. Love, Sue #
Guest guest
Patty, Good question! With me it was stress of an emotional and physical nature. During the pregnancy of my first child back in 1992 I was having bad gut pains. They would come and go. No doctor could ever tell me what was wrong. It happened again in my second pregnancy. And then again in my third, only it did not stop until after I started having really bad ones in July of 1999. I met a great doctor who of course took one look at me and said that it was my Gallbladder. I was in surgery the next morning. There is the physical stress. That was July 19. After I started to get better from the surgery the bills started coming in. So for the first time in over two years I went back to work. My first day was August 5, 1999. I had only been to work for two weeks, and I might add loving every minute of it, that my babysitter started whining. So there was the emotional stress, here I was trying to help out with the bills, pawning off my three young kids, and feeling guilty every second for leaving them. On August 25 I woke up with what I thought was the flu. It just got worse from there, you all know how it goes. I was in the hospital, seeing every doctor that would see me, getting gallons of blood work done. Then on October 12 I was diagnosed with Adult Onset Still's Disease. So yes I believe that my onset was brought on my stress of all kinds. I might have gotten it later in life but at that time it was just the right kind of stress and body weakness that got me. I also believe that God was trying to tell me in a quiet way that I was still needed in the home but I was not listening to him so BAM the dragon. Take care all, RE:Trauma before onset anyone? Guest guest
Hi , yes I do believe that something traumatic brings the onset to a head. Ma was believed to have pneumonia, which was ok until they gave her Penicillin. Deathly allergic too! Then when she got really sick after antibiotics they gave them to her again. She started hallucinating and she wasn't even in this world. She was totally dependant on us and we were at the most 13 or 14(my oldest sister). I think I was 12 or 13 at the time. Very scary. But we all think it was penicillin, even the nurse from here went to the city to tell ma that she couldn't believe she was still alive after the 2 penicillin episodes. But thankfully she is still here with us. Take Care Sheri RE:Trauma before onset anyone?
