Guest guest
I never got that excuse either. I spent several years as a La Leche League Leader so I have heard it all! Guest guest
I thought what a beautiful gift I was given to be able to nourish and nuture my tiny little until she developed enough to be able to start eating solid foods. My mom was supportive of me, she nursed my two brothers and I each for the first three months, she said she didn't have enough milk for us. My mother-in-law was not, said she "didn't want anyone sucking her t#$%". When she told me that I could not believe my ears! I couldn't understand how a mom could feel this way about her precious, sweet little baby that she loves and is going nurture. I don't think I could ever completly articulate the benefits I experiened from breastfeeding. We both were so content and I was very in tune with her. I was able to anticipate her wants and needs with ease. The bond I have with my daughter is amazing. It's almost as though we are invested in each other if that makes sense. I feel sad for those that have the option to breastfeed but choose not too and miss out on this. It's sad that the children don't get to have a choice in the matter. I doubt any of them would ever prefer an unfamiliar bottle over their warm, comforting, snuggly mom. My biggest joy from breastfeeding was the relationship part - realizing only I can have that with my babies - guess that might have been selfish too, but comes from somewhere deep inside - and felt oh so right. Yes, this is difficult for me to understand the reasoning behind this, I breastfed three for 2 plus years, it was pleasant, convenient, healthy. The difference was it was a conviction, a belief and finally a knowing that I was going to breastfeed and it was best.
