How would > exercise effect your adrenals? > > LYNN ________________ Excercise can double adrenal demand. The adrenals make 35 to 40 mg of cortisol a day and excercise can take 10 to 30mg of extra cortisol. The healthy adrenals store 3 weeks worth of hormone for things such as excercise. However in hypothryoidism that has gone on a long time, the adrenals can have about half the storage and are smaller and weaker. So, excercise can really get in the way of recovery for some people and give you bad sleep and make you sick. The only way to know if you have this problem is by seeing if you can tolerate excercise. If not, then it is best to cut down on the intensity and to break up excercise into 10 minute sessions with an hour or so between. This is less hard on the adrenals. Some people cannot do them at all and some docs say just do mild walking untill you are recovered. Tish
