Well, evidently she was totally wrong to tell me I ought to get a flu shot?

Re: doctors on west side of Houston

Robin, I am in the Clear Lake area and I saw a GP here, today...and she's given me a name of a thyroid specialist in Houston. I will send it to you in a few minutes, after I go downstairs and get the name out of my purse.

This GP tested me for FREE T3 and T4 today, and is talking about switching me to Armour! This was all her idea! I've never found anyone who was willing to even test "free" levels, much less consider Armour. I'm very excited that I might finally get some relief from my fatigue problems that have been plaguing me this year.

LOL! He is not a physically fit person, I couldn't help but notice.

Thanks for the support.

Sincerely,

One more thing about Dr. Arem. I told him I've gained nine pounds recently (up to 140, now). He flipped my chart over, looked at my basic info, and said dismissively, "It's your age." Period, end of discussion.

Just like I told him I'm still unbelievable tired every afternoon, but he said my levels are almost perfect, and I don't need to see him but twice a year now. Who cares if I'm tired. Guess life ends at age 41?

I'm not sure Dr. Arem is totally bad, just that he didn't want to do the "free" T tests. Okay, so his bedside manner isn't good, but English is not his first language, I can tell. But the real reason I'm writing is this...if you DO go to him, take a credit card! They make you pay in full, and you can try to get the money out of your ins company. In other words, I've dropped $400 or more, several times in there.

I don't think I'm going back, but I don't think he's a horrible doctor. I liked an endo in San that most people on this board think is just awful, LOL. We all click with different people. I still find it hard to second-guess Dr. Arem, being that he is very renowned in the medical world.

Yes, and he has the book all around the office...told me to buy one at and Noble. For what he charges, he should have thrown it in for free, IMHO! LOL.

Re: doctors on west side of Houston

Well, I will say this about Dr. Arem....I saw him two weeks ago, and asked for Free T3 and Free T4 testing and he said it's too expensive and doesn't really tell him anything. He can tell all he needs to know by the bloodwork he does. Not that they gave me the levels, but about three months ago they did:

T3=31.9

T4=8.8

TSH=4.7

This is not the first time I've seen somebody displeased with Dr Arem. I got an email from another lady about a year ago who went and also had testing done for her son who showed many problems. She was very disheartened when her credit card took a beating, yet her and her son's thyroid issues weren't addressed. It was the first time I ever heard anything negative about him.

I'm curious about why he doesn't test FreeT3 and FreeT4? Does anybody have any ideas?

Oh, yes, lol! Autoimmune disease, but it sounds like this one may be able to be "trained", if you present the evidence maybe? The Armour, The Armour! As long as the doc doesn't keep you underdosed, yes!

Re: doctors on west side of Houston

If your GP is prescribing you Armour and working with you, why are you going to see an endo, may I ask? I'd stick with the GP, for that alone.

It's not who we click with, personality wise, it's a matter of what they really know and carry out to their patients, concerning thyroid disorder.
