Guest guest
Depending on your browser and font settings, some people may have problems like you describe. There is nothing that can be down as far as the site goes about solving the problem. Tom Hi! Did you know when you click on that page that some of the words are superimposed? I noticed this once before when I was doing a web search on AS. While I'm at it, thanks for the all the hard work! Mann

Guest guest
Inger, I'm running Safari 1.2 web browser on an I Mac with the before mentioned overlap. With your suggestion I selected 'view', then selected 'make text smaller' twice to clear up overlap. Now text is difficult, but not impossible, for me to read. The text, before any change, takes up only the left 60% of the page. the 40% on the right is simply background texture. My question would be: Why can't the text use some of that 40% of the space on the right, so that overlap simply doesn't occur? Best of all, thanks for the 'solution'. I've encountered this kind of overlap occasionally also, but had no idea how to make it readable. Rainbow

Guest guest
The program is one given by Geocities and fills in whatever portion of your screen that is disused with blank space. During the setup process, I have boxes which indicates when text or pictures overlap and took pains to eliminate overlap when I designed the site. On the two different programs that I use to read the site, the text does not overlap. It may overlap for some of you. This is unfortunate, but I know of no way to circumvent this problem. Guest guest
Rainbow, There are no empty lines on my formatting pages. Everything is placed without significant space and without overlap. Browser settings and text settings on your computer will cause text and pictures to merge. I had a computer tech support guy review my page construction and he said THE number one reason people cannot read web pages is because they have tampered with their personal settings. Tom Tom, How about eliminating some of the empty lines. Before 'overlap' I get nine empty lines (spaces between blocks of text) and then overlap of thirteen lines. Shortening text 'wordage' by only four lines then would eliminate ALL overlap. I'm not suggesting that you 'talk' too much, just trying to suggest ways to eliminate overlap. I'm not an editor! Tom, I may well have tampered! In the last few years I have had seven operations on my eyes. Genetics! My father became blind before he passed on. I would be blind now but for 'modern' technology! With artificial lens, at best I 'see' blurry. I have probably 'set' my fonts a couple of points higher than 'default' for this reason. Overlap rarely occurs but now Inger 'showed' me how to correct it. All's well that ends well. Rainbow

Guest guest
> How do the pages look to the rest of you guys? > http://www.geocities.com/environmental1st2003/Main3.html The problem is with the " div " tags which state " position:absolute " . I also get the bottom " <hr> " about 1 1/2 lines into the main text. I'm using Firefox 1.0.3. As to " changing the settings " my font size is smaller, but that's within the " DTD HTML 4.0 " spec. I don't buy the following: > I had a computer tech support guy review my page construction > and he said THE number one reason people cannot read web pages > is because they have tampered with their personal settings. First, most people don't know how to change and recompile their settings and they don't edit code. They don't know how to edit registry settings They are *unable* to tamper with their settings. Second, adjustment of font size, etc. should affect... font size, etc. It could make text too small or large but should not change the alignment. So I did change the " position:absolute " division positions and they did move, but that didn't fix the problem. Here's why: As I adjusted text size, the text would still move relative to the other text. The copyright and " marble.jpg " lines (look like <hr>'s when reading the page) would remain in place as the text walks over it. Those " position:absolute " work best with fixed size attributes like photos. They obviously block text, which changes according to web browser and the individual's font size selection. Incidentally, my font size is smaller than the browser default. The browser default would be worse. - s

Guest guest
Clarifying, changing " font size " is not " tampering with personal settings " .
